Close about half of the prisons-( the majority of prisoners are there for drug offenses)-vastly cut funding to the military, as well as most foreign aid. Then cut the spending on 'law enforcement', courts, etc., so that the main purpose for their existence is to protect us from real crime (murder, assault, robbery, burglary..) instead of spending vast sums regulating every aspect of our lives. That's just for a start.
One could write an entire book on this question. In fact people have. So I will have to keep this general and simple. Let’s cut every program and department out of government until its only service is to protect our property (your body being considered your property) and our rights and liberties. What would be the results? We would have more freedom and liberty and less government intrusion and regulation into our lives. We would have more prosperity since we would have a much less tax burden. No government regulation limiting what one can do. No need for government approval to start a profession or open a business or having to pay the high cost and taxes that go with it. Small local businesses would have a fair, level playing field against large companies who currently use the government to stack laws in their favor. Eat, drink, smoke, consume and do whatever you like as long as you are not harming anyone or their property. Companies and government could no longer pollute others’ property (environment) with no consequences. Since property rights would actually be respected and enforced, it would become financially burdensome to do so. We would have cheaper, better healthcare with more choices. No wars fought defending and expanding the interests of the elite. Just to name a few.
Here's the 2007 budget: cut what you want! $699 billion (+x%) - Defense $586.1 billion (+7.0%) - Social Security $394.5 billion (+12.4%) - Medicare $367.0 billion (+2.0%) - Unemployment and welfare $276.4 billion (+2.9%) - Medicaid and other health related $243.7 billion (+13.4%) - Interest on debt $89.9 billion (+1.3%) - Education and training $76.9 billion (+8.1%) - Transportation $72.6 billion (+5.8%) - Veterans' benefits $43.5 billion (+9.2%) - Administration of justice $33.1 billion (+5.7%) - Natural resources and environment $32.5 billion (+15.4%) - Foreign affairs $27.0 billion (+3.7%) - Agriculture $26.8 billion (+28.7%) - Community and regional development $25.0 billion (+4.0%) - Science and technology $23.5 billion (+0.0%) - Energy $20.1 billion (+11.4%) - General government
Let's start with Defense. Looks to me like we could find a lot of wasted revenue in just this one department.
Defense= mandate everyone at age 18 who is able to serve in the military like Switzerland. In return free medical, dental, education and a part at Social Security. Welfare= Go back to old work programs, real training, mandated working at schools and such to take the load off the education budgets and transportation and other areas. Social Security+ Cut those recieving checks for BS like alcoholics, and a few other items done by choice. Prison funding= Release petty crime ppl, execute for murder 1, violent rape, prison rapists and such. Goverment paychecks= Cut back checks to equate more like what the real job market would offer for that job. examples are like DOT pays roughly 30% more than that of the public sector for the same work.
Those are growth rates, there is no % growth for defense because I had to adjust the number (upwards) to include some defense expenditures which are treated as "appropriations" and are not reported as part of the budget. But they should be.
Cut corporate welfare by increasing corporate taxes. Corporations tax income is 1/5 what individual taxes bring in. That doesn't seem right. Peace and love
