ok if there are any mycologists or just any growers i have a question.......... ok i inoculated my jars like 8 days ago and the mycelium is noticeable however the growth rate is very very slow.. now there in a 85 degree surrounding. and in 8 days there like the size of half a dime at this rate it will b months before the jars are completly colonized........... any help please
Shake them up so that it will scatter what mycellium has grown already throughout the substrate, which will allow it to colonize your jar from multiple points. I assume that you innoculated using spores; in the future, if you learn how to make a liquid culture, which is just mycellium grown in a liquid medium, and use that, then your substrates will colonize faster.
With birdseed and verm, the jars may not break up. And actually, your rate of growth doesn't sound too bad for a multi-spore inoculation. Just wait till it forms some dikaryotic mycelium. It'll take off like a rocket. Also, you may want to lower your temps a little. 86 is ideal, but the jars produce heat, so you should keep it closer to 82 or 83. Definitely look into making liquid culture or working with agar. It'll make your colonizing much faster.
