The United States of America. Good, or bad? I'd really like to keep this simple. Answer either "good" or "bad". That's IT.
Think of it this way: You sit down at a restaurant, and have a big 3-course dinner. There are bound to be things about it you liked, and things that you didn't. But at the end of the night, you should be able to say whether you'd classify it as a good meal, or a bad one.
Eh... but it was three separate courses. So it was 3 separate meals that you ate all in one sitting that made it your dinner. Anyway, I don't really understand how to answer such an abstract question. Are we talking about the state itself, the people, nationalism, government, constitutional values? I do not see the value in a one word poll, per se. Not the most accurate piece of information to dissect meaning from. I can't vote on something like this. I refuse to make a vote before understanding what exactly I'm voting for or against.
The question is in terms of: Presently (as in the way things are right now) A place to live - a good or bad one Current influences on, and contributions to the international community The way it treats it's citizens It's laws and legal system Is it a righteous country? This has nothing to do with the people who live in the country.
i guess most of the American population are some really nice, friendly people. Just like there are fuckin bastards, there are good and honest guys just like everywhere in the world! Its all about the individual. But hey your prezident sucks.
Alright. I voted "BAD" because if I were given the choice and chance to live there, I presently wouldn't take it.
This is the type of simplistic thinking the mainstream media as well as the U.S. education system promotes since we are infants. Is so-and-so "good"? Or "Bad"? Are we all 4 year olds here? Talk about insulting everybody's intelligence. I mean jeez, there wasn't even an "undecided" option for Christ's sake!! Needless to say, I didn't vote on this disingenuous poll because it's too misleadingly simple. As someone above asked, what exactly is "The United States of America"? Is it the government which is slowly destroying itself in favor or WORLD (global) government? Is it the American populace? Is it the geographical land? Is it the indigenous people of this country? What exactly are you asking us to vote on? Oh, I know...you're intentionally limiting our options to ascertain how stupid (or not) we all are. Most of us aren't falling for it. As for those who do (fall for it), I pity them greatly.
I don't think simplistically at all. This was meant to be kind of like a word association game, but w/ever.
I see both sides of the point. It was a simple question but you can't possibly boil it down to black or white. We were founded on great principles that have been perverted over the years. As a people we have our hearts in the right place but we're governed by a group of chimpanzees with their fingers on the Armageddon button. We're hard-working for the most part but always looking for ways to slack. We're fat, we're overconsumers and we rely far too much on non-renewable natural resources. Averaging it out, I abstain.
I didn't vote because the question is so simplistic that an accurate answer is impossible. If I had to vote, I'd vote GOOD, both as a goal that should be met and as an affermation that it can be met.
yeah, we have a suck ass president that has tarnished America's image. overall though, American's are a kind, giving and decent people .. so I'd vote good.
txbarefooter, can I come live with you? Because where I'm at, Americans are NOT generous, caring, or compassionate. In fact they are lazy, selfish, self-absorbed, greedy, UNkind, hypocritical, and dog-eat-dog. In actions, that is. In words, they are a little bit kinder.
Uhm...I'd be interested to hear you explain then why it is that the US has been the #1 country IN THE WORLD for providing disaster relief and monetary aid to underdeveloped countries? Whenever there's a disaster, or a country that can't even keep its population fed and cared for medically...who's always been there to help? That's right, the United States.
And to think this came from a person with the handle "Michael Savage".... Give me a break, anyone who can boil their opinion about an entire country down to "good or bad" is an idiot, media personality, or politician, all should be avoided. and Michael Savage(the radio personality) is a douche, no not because he thinks america is "good", just because i've listened to his show and he's a douche, doesn't know anything about anything, at least Rush tries to make sense.
Wow, Shane...when you quoted my post I actually thought for a second that you were going to attempt to counter it. Oh hang on a second...guess ya did by calling a radio personality a douche. My mistake. Good to see a nice, well-thought out response.
If any nation has a bi-polar disorder, it's the United States. Very good or very bad is a poor way to run a democracy. x
