I am white. Very white. I am a bit chubby. I have absolutely pissy hair. All I can do with it anymore is braid it 24/7 because otherwise it gets so tangled up I break hairbrushes. It is strong hair, and I think it's healthy. It's also "slippery" if it's straightened out and soft. The hairs themselves are skinny, there's just a lot of them. And I used to have stick straight hair, but around age 19 I started going curly/wavy. Now it's out of control. I've wanted dreads for years, and I am very close to making that step. I just am not sure if my hair is "good" for dreads, like will they hold? Will they come apart? Will my appearance of hair "shrink" a lot? I saw another blonde girl do her dreads, and her hair ended up shrinking to 1/3 of what it was. Her hair was thinner all over and straighter than mine though. And my hair is naturally blonde. Some people have told me blonde dreads look awful. Those of you that know about hair types, and what works with dreads, check out my pics below please and tell me what you think the experience would be if I did dread them. I want skinny dreads. My hair is longer than it is in these pics but otherwise the same. And in the second one I had to block out my face, because I have some stalker issues. Heh. Thanks!
If you've been wanting to do it for awhile I say go for it... but I'm a bit biased If your hair is tangling up on it's own then there you have it... it will dread just fine. Your hair WILL likely shrink... but it'll grow again so no worries. And it really is a lovely color... blonde dreads are beautiful. I suspect the person who said blonde dreads look awful is someone who dislikes dreads in general.
The blonde dread thing is personal taste. The real question is, how do YOU feel about blonde dreads? You have great hair though, it should dread up nicely. Yes, it will shrink, but that's how dreads form.
blonde dreads are awesome they are my favorite color of dreads especially when they have the white tips on their dreads it looks great
i wish my hair was blonde. blonde dreads are so gorgeous. you have really beautiful hair and it would look great dreaded. the texture looks similar to mine, i think it would dread really well
I think you would have beautiful dreads. in fact, im sure of it yeah, your hair will shrink a little bit in length, but your hair is so long i wouldnt worry about it. and i would argue that blonde dreads look fantastic
my hair was doing the same, I hadto brsuh 8 times a day just to stop it from locking up :-/ I just lt my hair become dreadlocks, let it have its own way. I think you have enough hair to make some gorgeous skinny dreads. You do loose a little length, but your hair seems quite long anyway so it should be fine. Im still new to this too, but hope it helps
your hair is so cool. it will totally dread awesome!!! You're chubby????? i dont think so at all!!!!!! rock the blond dreads!!!
Well, there seems to be a view that some chubby girls don't look "right" with dreads or something. Personally I think dreads are universal, to ME there are very few that dreads wouldn't "fit". I think more than anything I am just afraid that if I get them, love them, be all happy about them, someone will say something and make me regret having gotten them. I really really want them though, and as time goes on I go more and more that way. I do fear regretting it. Especially since I have cochlear implants, which means I have these little headpieces that look like round refrigerator magnets (lol) that stick on my head. They aren't that big or anything, but they have to be in JUST the right place as close to my scalp as possible to work, and always the same place. I worry if I get dreads, if that will somehow get in the way of the magnet in the headpiece portion reaching my scalp. Another issue is, I will more than likely be having more surgeries to upgrade or replace the internal parts, which means part of my head gets shaved, usually a portion behind my ear. Sometimes it's a large portion and sometimes small. If I got dreads, it'd be a lot more noticeable when they shaved there, and what if they end up shaving MORE than they would have otherwise because of the dreads? What about the growing out part? I'd have some dreads and some non dreaded short hair, sticking out through the dreads. Ok, maybe I shouldn't get them after all, lol.
yes get them!!!!! if you do need to have a few shaved off, then keep them and as soon as the shaved area has grown enough in length, felt or crochet the buggers back on!! i would say it is easier to hide things when you have dreads, hell i've wandered around with my sis all day and she never once spotted the roll up i had behind my ear, and she is hugely anti smoking! you want dreads, it sounds like your very soul wants dreads, just go do it! your hair would make kickass dreads in no time
You're packing a lot of fear, which I'm thinking might mean you're not quite ready yet. Keep thinking about dreads. Keep researching dreads. Look for ideas like maybe a shaven undercut look so the surgery shave won't seem so bad. Grab all the inspiration and information you can. And then magicially one day (weeks to years, who knows) you will wake up and you will be sure. You'll find your draw to dreads will overpower any self consciousness, infact you may even find that you're looking forward to them because of what people might say and that 'fuck them' you're strong and confident enough to deal with it. (Because someone *will* say something shitty about your hair, especially during the chaos of the first months) You've got lovely hair. I think it will dread nicely. It seems thick and dense enough, that if you do undercut or shave some, you'll have enough of a pile of hair that it's not gonna be noticeable.
my only advice is..do what makes YOU happy and stop caring so much what other people think. everybody won't like everything you do or everything you wear. that's part of life..
I think your hair will look great as dreads, but ultimately it's your desicion. Don't pay a salon to do it though, get some instructions off the net and have your friends,/partner/boyfriend or whatever do it. Good luck! : ) Or just let it go into dreads naturally..but you will have to put up with it looking like a birds nest then (in my humble opinion)
