What do all you fellas think about burning the tips of your hair with it already twisted, this way they grow into dreads.

Was talking to a friend's mom, and she said over in Jamaica, that's the way they did it, and it worked fine.

    Thoughts?

I don't understand why you would want to when there is so many other ways of growing dreads. By the look of your hair in your photo, you have no problems with getting dreads. They'll form naturaly.

i burn the tips of mine daily on something or another and i dont really see where it helps any at all :|... just makes it look like i took a pair of scissors and snipped the end off making it resemble a old used paint brush tip

    Lol I got the picture.

I just wanted to see if anybody has done this method.
I'm not worried about how I will get my dreads, I know I'm going to back comb. Just about 1/2 - 1 month left of hair growin' and I'll start combing it.

if i took flame to my thin-ass hair, my entire head would go up in a ball of fiery death!

    ^ Seriously! Mine too.
I wouldn't do the burning if for no other reason than it would smell like hell. Probably quite literally. lol

is that you in the pic? If so, I know quite a few dreadlocked folk with your hair texture and backcombing is NOT the way to go. Either let it go completely natural or twist it. As far as burning the tips... um. yikes.

Nah, burning would stink and serve not practical purpose, your better off getting some Lock Peppa and rubbing the end of the dread into your palm with some of it, if you want neat rounded tips.

    Yes it is me.

My fro had gotten I'd say about 2 inches bigger =)

May I ask why NOT to backcomb?

Twisting is tiring and annoying to keep doing, natural is a possibility.

backcombing isn't necessary... especially for your hair type. It can actually be quite damaging since it's a lot of stress on the hair and may hurt a lot since your hair looks quite thick. In the end, dreads are dreads so to each his own :)
