the summed up version would be this... i was with a friend (i do not remember if the friend was someone i know or just a symbol.. i do not remember what their face even appeared like ) Well, we were on this quest to find out what they needed to do with this big silver chain... although i dont remember dragging the chain around.. and we kept asking what was to be done with it .. well at the very end of the dream we were told "paint it red" but then after all this searching i didnt know if I wanted to paint it red. I was expecting another answer maybe.
I am wondering specifically what the red and the chain could symbolize. and any other interpretations are welcome too.

    thanks!

perhaps the chain is a burden of some sort, but since you said you don't remember carying the chain around, maybe the burden is somebody elses, and you feel obligated to do something about it. You ask people for an answer, but the answer you get is not one you like.

Has somebody recently spoken to you about a problem they have with you? Relationship-wise? Maybe you want to make this person feel better, but feel the problem they brought up is silly or does not pertain to you?

    Thanks for the response.
I was thinking along the same lines about the chain symbolizing some kind of a burden.. The rest of the dream though I am still not quite relating too.. maybe something else will come up.

    any other opinions?

I agree with the burden theory. Someone else has a problem and you feel obligated to help. As for painting it red, of course it's not a solution. It's a step. After searching for the answer, someone has given you the next clue. Paint it red. Try to recreate that dream next time you fall asleep. If you can, then paint the chain red. Once you paint it, look at it, think about it, and try to figure out the answer. If not, ask again. Sometimes the journey is more important, not the destination.
