You are correct, because in order for something to 'have fallen', there needs to be a conscious being present to term it as thus. If there is no conscious being to define a tree as thus, the tree simply was standing in the past, and presently is on the forest floor, and in the future will be, well we cant exactly determine that. But the 10 directions of time and space are only as such because we comprehend and perceive them to be that way.
