Hey I'm in the process of looking at colleges and I'd love some input.
The thought of leaving Vermont is pretty sad, having grown up right near UVM's Burlington, but I'm still stoked to go.

I'm looking for a really cool, medium-sized hippie school and I really like Humboldt State and SUNY New Paltz right now because they offer nursing and seem really down to earth. It's really important that the school I choose has a student body not afraid to speak up : ) Ideas?

    Thanks:cheers:

I go to Brandeis (home of Abbie Hoffman and Angela Davis) and we're extremely active. We even have an active College Republicans despite them being the odd men out on campus, which I respect. However, alas, no nursing.

What are your grades like? APs? PSAT? I can pick out a few more if I know what level of school you're looking to go to.

My grades are actually pretty good right now (it's weird...at my high school the smart kids ARE the potheads). I'm a junior this year and my worst grade is a B+, and I do a lot of community service, clubs, and sports. My parents are totally obsessed with Ivy League schools, but I would suffocate in that atmosphere haha. Thanks for the help!!

Well... you might look into Dartmouth? It's still an Ivy League, but I've always gotten a different vibe from people there.. though supposedly it's one of the more conservative Ivies. It's very outdoorsy and environmental though.

What about Bennington? It might be a bit small, but it definitely has a unique atmosphere as does Hampshire.

One of my friends goes to Hampshire. She told me that you can create your own major there, which is pretty sweet. Also, a lot of heady bands play there.

Ohh man I love Hampshire, it looks amazing. But they don't have nursing :(

It's such a bummer, a lot of fantastic liberal schools don't have a college of nursing. I'm kind of interested in the Amherst area a little though, UMass Amherst looks interesting but I don't know if it has the vibe I'm looking for.

New Paltz is fun as hell. It's the uber college town. I used to go there to escape from Poughkeepsie and the sea of cultural normalcy in Marist College.

Right now I'm looking into transferring into Bard College or Vassar College (both in the region. they have shitty college towns but 'hip' campus life)

My friend's brother goes to New Paltz. If you're serious about Ivy League, look into Cornell. I visited there last September because my sister wants to go there and I thought it was great, not that I'd ever make it in. They're supposed to be great academically but the kids like to party.[IMG]

NO. Fuck Cornell. I don't care how much herb they smoke (and from what I've heard they're bigger on kegs than bongs). I have met a lot of Cornell students and they are all boring as shit. Although Ithica is a little bit hip, it's totally not a hip campus. I mean would a neohippie-ish campus culture embracing love, compassion, non-judgment, and just not stressing oneself out over everything need to SUICIDE-PROOF THEIR CAMPUS. The goddamn bridges have nets under them. I really don't think there are any hip schools in the Ivy League. In that region, Vassar and Bard provide a hip artsy/bohemian campus, although they are a bit elitist. I really think any 'good' liberal arts college is going to be like that though. From what I've heard Macalester campus (in St. Paul-Milwaukee area) is an excellent campus for political involvement. George Washington University (in DC) is also pretty good for that.

Nah. You didn't upset me. I just rant whenever I have an opinion.
