for those of you that have read this book, i need your help pleaseee! i was assigned a book report about a month ago, and we had the freedom to choose our own books. i have wanted to read this book for a while but i never really found the time. so here i am and i am 3/4s the way through it, and i really want to continue reading it, which i will over winter break. But, the presentation is due on december 10th. and due to the fact that I am approaching the end of the marking period i have a lot of reports and projects through the week, leaving me with little time to read. --- So now to the point, if anybody would care to give me a breif paragraph (or in depth would be even better) of the whole background of how kesey and the pranksters ended up on this road trip (i understand he is trying to graduate people fromthe use of lsd, but why?) i would greatly appreciate it. And where there trip stops and what happens in the whole end of the book (just the general gist of things). Right now i am at the point where they explain that kesey's house was on survailance and the pranksters would put up signs and stuff to mess with the cops, and i have no idea how they got there or if there trip is over or what. that is what happens when i attempt to read and do multiple things at once. I hope somebody can help me! thanks.
What's it about? Kids on a bus, trying to freakout/change America with with their whimsical magick juice called LSD. Kids getting by on Kesey's money that he got from his novels. Trying to make The Movie. Blarghblargh.
sums it up in a sentence i guess. lol. but what was the motivation for the whole acid graduation. and where does the kool-aid acid test come in? what is it?
I'd suggest googling it. I'm sure you'll find the info you need within seconds. I will not help you do your homework. Be responsible, and all of that good stuff.
i know i tried google, tried sparknotes monkey notes cliff notes,,, for some reason i cant find it anywwhereee
Kind of a tough piece to summarize, even just a chapter. Very tough to write an essay on, but you are only in 9th or 10th grade. Back then I would procrastinate until the day before it was due, and then just get totally fucked out of my mind and bullshit the whole thing.
yeah im in 10th, and thats exactly what i was doing last year. so this year i decided to step my game up, and become more of an active drug user i guess is a good name lol. I actually find it quite interesting that everybody expects me to be failing yet i have great grades. but anyway yeah i have the bookreport prettymuch completed i just need to find somewhat of a timeline of main events
Didn't the guy driving the bus write 'One Flew Over The Cuckoo's nest'? Were these guys in reality 'above the law' with their ivy-league foundations and upbringing? The only thing I got from the book is that LSD was delivered with SUGAR. The brain needs sugar to process the trip.
Well, for those of you who have read it. I found some pretty interesting video footage of the people in the book, and of the bus. That gave me a much better visual of everything. video of them in UK http://youtube.com/watch?v=L35JUNWG3lc A page on Kesey http://www.ukrockfestivals.com/kesey-a-tribute.html
I know that you already did you book report and everything, but I feel compelled to give my understanding why Keasey wanted to graduate people off of lsd......here goes: LSD opens a door in ones mind. After consuming copious amounts of lsd, Keasey realized that it only opens the door and takes you so far. We, on our own accord, can take the experience further (without lsd). Tripping is not supposed to be a way to get fucked up....it is supposed to be a spiritual experience (any kind of hallucinogen!! Look up the Native American Church peyote rituals, ayuhasca of Peru, etc.) Keasey saw the masses going apeshit, and he tried to let people understand that after you "open the door" through lsd, the rest is up to us.
Probably one of my favorite books. It sounded like a really cool thing to be a part of. But at the same time I saw a lot of things I didn't like that Kesey encouraged. But don't get me wrong that doesn't take away from my huge respect for Ken Kesey. He is absolutely an amazing author and person. Although, even in the book, it talks about how their whole journey was Kesey's "movie." And like someone already mentioned these acid pranksters all lived off Kesey's money and lot. Sure, they really set in motion the whole acid culture in Frisco with their acid tests. Tom Wolfe even goes on to write a very good portion of the book about the whole movement after the Prankster's hey day. But in my opinion, the followers really out did the pioneers. I've heard many of people say how they feel that most of the 60s hippies were phonies. I can ALMOST agree with this view when looking at the Pranksters. But the people who truelly fell in love with the life took it to the next level when they dropped their whole previous life. Surely it couldn't have been easy as the original intellectuals from Perry Lane sucking on Kesey's tit. p.s. - Neal Cassady drove Furthur (the bus)
