The 3rd Eye is the intuitive, single eye of omniscient perception, which when opened fully allows one to wake up in and as the mind of God. It is a means with which one to realize ones own divinity! There are many ways of doing this, one of the few blessings of a natural ability I was born with was a partially opened 3rd eye, and this has increased vastly over the years on it's own, myself being unaware of what was actually happening. Many times I thought I was going insane, but it felt so right, and so natural at the same time, if that makes sense.
The best method is the sit cross legged on the floor, relax your entire body and put your palms facing upwards resting on your knees. Close your eyes and concentrate your vision at the point where to two eyes meet, slightly above but only very slightly. Clear your mind of any thoughts and emotions, practice tuning out all external stimuli, maybe try envisioning a flower there, a lotus, or a star, whatever you are into. Keep doing this day after day after day, make it a daily habit to try as long as possible in each meditation session, for most people before going to bed is the most conveniant time. Try for 5 minutes your first day, 10 the next, 20 or 30 the next, and when you find a comfortable time stick with it until you feel you can remain like that for longer. I usually do 1-2 hours a day, I start of using japa mala and mentally reciting mantra, typically the maha mantra to focus the mind on God alone and empty all thoughts and feelings. And just stare at the same spot. It may seem hopeless at first, but then one Orange Morning (or evening lol), a strange light appears...

And remember what Jesus said :
The light of the body is the eye. Therefor, if thine eye become single, thy whole body shall be full of light.

Good luck if you give it a try, remember as with anything in this life, practice makes perfect. If you expect immediate results you will most likely be dissapointed, but again if nothing happens right away dont be discouraged. It takes lifetimes, literally, to even see it, so if you are ready, which being that you are interested you surely are, it will come to you. Never ending Bliss is about all you can expect to follow. Not a bad reward for doing something for yourself, if you ask me! :D

Well from what I gather, it's the light of Creation, which if you are able to penetrate the light and look deep enough, well, I dont know if there's a word to describe it. Everything? That's about the best word lol :)

hmm. maybe im not ready. this seems like something that would be hard for me to do. when i try to meditate i always end up thinking about something. it's difficult for me to COMPLETELY clear my mind, as im always wondering about things. but, it never hurts to try?

Interesting... I regularly meditate as well. One morning I woke up in a lucid dreaming like state and I saw this light. It was an orange light, kind of similar to the sun, and as I attracted it I felt this amazing sensation all over my body. I remember attracting the light with the third eye. However, I did not hold on for very long as I was too full of fear. After letting go I woke up sweating and heart pounding. I would have to say it was THE most incredible experience of my life. Can you relate to this at all RELAYER? As it would seem that you reached this state while awake.

JAdamE, this has to be the same thing. Maybe you have naturally keen and intuition, and this is why you were shown on your own through a lucid dream state? I must say that is pretty amazing, I've never had a lucid dream as it is, but to have one about being attracted to the Source? Wow!
I am at work, but I have MUCH that I would like to share with you after reading this. For now all I have time to say is that if you are meditating regularly, you should definitley concentrate on the focal point between the brows on that charka because obviously your's is highly in tune. That is exciting and I wish nothing but the best for you should you go for it! Really though, if you are meditating daily it would most likely come to you anyway, you all the time here reports from people who are either amateur meditators or meditating without any form or purpose other than to exist, that a bright light appears to them, but they cant hold onto it/go deeper. Im not saying it's easy, at all. And the first time you go in it probably will be very confusing and disorenting. But I find that to be the beauty of it.
Yogananda warns though, not to be distracted for long by the manifested colours and images the 3rd eye creates, but to focus on it's center point and keep penetrating further. I have never gone all the way, obviously or I would be a guru or a saint by now  But just like you guys this is very exciting for all of us!

Just open it. Stop "seeing" things and start SEEING them.

There are no real benefits, because once the third eye is opened, you realize that terms like "good" and "bad" have a lot less meaning than you once thought.

I wish I had time to watch that whole video! I had time to watch about half of it. Everything he is saying is what was told to us by Lord Krishna thousands of years ago. This ties into the yuga's and the movement towards massive shifts in spiritual consciousness. The way he describes it as the spiritual thoughts of God manifesting into matter through as reality being the condensation of God's Love, is exactly the same way I describe it. My guess, judging by his terminology, is that he also regards Yogananda as highly as I do because this is exactly how Yogananda put it to those of us in the West. One of my favorite photo's is of Guruji teaching Ghandi the technique of Kriya Yoga, complete mastery of the astral/causal spinal ascension to God Consciousness.
What a beautiful man, saints come in the forms that we often ignore and for those who are accepting and loving enough to listen to anyone with an equal heart, we are the one's who are touching the trascendental nature of the true divinity and essence of our Source, back through the measuring of the light of Creation. Atom blossoms blooming out of magnetic fields on the screen of consciousness, this is the neon dots we are seeing during LSD trips, and this is the star, or the Sun like light you saw during lucid dreaming, as much as this is the white divine magnetism admist the darkness of the mind for true yogi's who attain Realization without substances and without any other motive than that of Truth.
Thank you for sharing JAdamE, it's so refreshing to hear Krishna's word's still ringing true in so many different places. -

I have to admit, he does remind me of me when I get drunk and go off about God and Natures reality as not being reality at all :& We are all beginners, truly.

This brings up a very good point I often ponder. It seems to me that in this society it is impossible to have a girlfriend and continue towards the spiritually enlightened path. To truly humble yourself is to be alone and not give in to sexual desire. Am I right about this? Even when my motives are pure and I want nothing but a sexual partner to share my life with it seems that it would not work in the path of enlightenment. I also am pondering whether I should panhandle part time or maybe even full time.

No it's not impossible, but if you truly desire to be in total God consciousness 24/7 and are unable to control your desire when lusting after the opposite sex, then it is wise to remain celibate and single. But if you can control your desire, well sure, there's plenty of people dedicated to the negation of karma who are married and have families. It's about what you are really afrer. Do you want the company from a girlfriend or a wife? Or do you want sexual gratification? Do you want both? Or would you enjoy having a girlfriend who desired God consciousness to be your companion on the same journey? The reality is that it is a journey you go on alone, and if you desire one thing while a girl desires another, more than likely there will be interference, and negative reactions to intereference defeat the entire purpose.
It is a personal descision elfin, there is no real yes or no answer to this question you've put forth. If you want to spend your time communing with God more than anything else, chances are your not meant to be in a relationship, but again that is not definite. If you find yourself more pleased with the temporary satisfaction of getting laid, then chances are your not ready for full time God communion.
I have been more or less stuck in the middle for the past 2 years. I tried dating several girls after I split with my sons mother, but it never worked for me. Not only do I not 'click' with girls like I used to, but I find myself only longing to meditate and focus on reading, or helping people (which is getting more rare these days as I've been basically a hermit ((not by choice)).) and less concerned with personal relationships. I have it different than average spiritual boys, because I am a single parent, so all of my love and affection goes directly to making my boy feel special and appreciated. I rarely think of being in a relationship and when I do, I find myself just about wholly rejecting the notion.
I live first for God and love for my son. Other than that Im a free spirit. -
