Beginning yoga is most effective when you know how to take the proper steps to reach your full potential. There are several aspects to yoga, and yoga poses for beginners is only one of them. You can also learn about Yama, Niyama, Asana, Pranayama, Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyana, and Samadhi. These are the 'elements' of yoga, and you will need to know about each of them to experience the full benefits of yoga., if you know any information about this, you can post your replies here, it will be useful for all

Maharishi Mahesh Yogi taught that through TM samadhi was easily experienced. That also was my experience. he said that if one pulls one leg of a table then they all will come, and that since samadhi is the most blissful part of the Asthangas of Patanjali that therefore the other limbs would develop quicker that way. Of course, one could extrapolate this beyond Maharishi and TM that any path which facilitates samadhi would be the fastest path.

You do understand that you're describing Patanjali's Eight Limbed Yoga (Ashta Angha Yoga). There are other forms of yoga, and there are the Agamas.

Get the book Light on Yoga by Iyengar - it has a great introduction to all the yoga disciplines.
