I like apple cider in the fall/winter Water or beer in the summer and vodka cocktails anytime.. To hydrate my cotton mouth I usually just drink water though. Right now I'm drinking apple cider.
i went to the store for some celis grand cru, but they didnt have any sixpacks left so i snatched up the last 3 bottles in a mixed sixpack, along with singles of three other beers (fullers london porter, victory storm king imperial stout, and the one i'm drinking now) the first one out of the pack i am drinking now, because i just couldnt wait to try it and i'm stoned and wanted a nice beer before i have to leave for work in an hour or so. its houblon chouffe dobbelen IPA tripel.....a mouthfull of a name, this was the most expensive beer i got today at 4 bucks for an 11.2oz bottle.... this belgian beer is simultaneously a tripel and an IPA....definitely a strong belgian style yeast, but hopped like an american imperial IPA...it uses saaz, amarillo, and tomahawk hops.....its quite strong (9%ABV) yet easy to drink if you love hoppy beers.....this is probably a new favorite of mine....really strong, really hoppy ipas are a dime a dozen anywhere you can get craft beers, but this is really new to me, really estery and complex due to the addition of belgian yeasts....its the best of both worlds....if you like hoppy beers and can find this brew where you live, you OWE it to yourself to spend a little extra cash sometime and try it....simply amazing! http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/321/27804
belgian brewers make some of the very best beers in the world, and while i have no favorite country of origin for my beers (good beer can be brewed anywhere, and some of my favorite styles are not typically belgian, and some wonderful belgian style beers are actually brewed outside of belgium) if i had to choose one country, belgium would likely be it....though it would be close between choosing beer from belgium and beer from the us belgian beer is ver diverse, but probably the two most popular styles are trappist/abbey ales and the witbier....if you want to try some belgian beers, good starters are chimay (a genuine trappist beer, brewed by monks) and hoegaarden (a witbier, made with wheat malt, coriander, and orange peel) chimay has three beers, and they're all magnificent, but i'd suggest the grande reserve (blue label) or the cinq cents (white label)...quite different from each other, but both are reasonably potent and heavy on the malt, easy on the hops...grande reserve is very dark, the cinq cents is lighter in color, but still very heavy and rich....both are good cold weather beers, heavy, warming, and strikingly intoxicating compared to what most people are used to in the US hoegaarden is lower in alcohol and more crisp and refreshing, and better for summer drinking, but a decent bit more accessible than some of the stronger, heavier belgian beers, and far more common and accessible. hoegaarden is the quintessential witbier, and though i personally like wittekerke a little better, hoegaarden is the standard by which wits are measured. if you haven't tried it before, its like blue moon, but far better quality. its what blue moon wishes it was
Yes she drinks chimay sometimes. But blue moon is easier to find, so I'll have to let her know about this one: hoegaarden. Do you think I can find it in a big packie in around here? I live in in new england.
umm, well, i hate to say this but i dont know what a big packie is haha i live in central ohio, and places to buy craft beers are few and far between. i've had to get online and find stores around the area, and luckily a few of the better locations are relatively near my new apartment, but the best is far away....but hoegaarden is carried in virtually every major grocery store in the area. it was purchased by a huge company somewhat recently and has experienced somewhat better availability recently, at least in my area. i never once saw it when i was in highschool stocking beer at the grocery, but now its everywhere. if you live in even a slightly smaller town, you can probably find it relatively nearby. you should definitely try hoegaarden (pronounced hoo-garden) or wittekerke if you can find it...blue moon is ok, but its a little thin on the mouthfeel, a little too abrasive on the coriander and orange....hoegaarden and wittekerke are both just a good bit better than blue moon. not to badmouth blue moon, its quite tasty, affordable, and incredibly available in the us as it's owned by coors and as such enjoys incredibly wide abailability. its a good try at brewing a wit, but by no means the best one available at least its unfiltered!
