Recently released tape from Austin, Texas showing a man being tasered for not producing his drivers license and insurance documents quickly enough... tasered within 40 seconds from being pulled over.

Hey now, read the other thread. That is a "useful tool".

Yet another cop not emotionally equipped to be an officer.

Groups need to form to make the public more aware of this and to go up against this problem.

Years ago I saw a father on the TV news whose teenage daughter was killed in an accident caused by an undisciplined cop chasing some guy down the highway 100 mph for a burned out tail light. This father founded a group which made people more aware of the problem and petitioned various agencies to change the police policies from what used to be a 'get the guy at all costs during a chase' mentality to one where the chase is called off before it becomes too risky.

You know, this is a weekly thing now. I just read a story about a 68 year old DISABLED man being tased in Florida - think it was Florida just LAST week. Then there was the story about *insert State/victim name here*, and the week before and the week before THAT.

    *incessant cussing*

I hate speeding traps, and pig-headed cops. What ever happened to this man?

dilli you always make me laugh... even in a thread that is anything but funny. But seriously, there are some here on THIS SITE who think tasers are useful in the hands of police. Deplorable.

BTW this happened Thanksgiving day of LAST year. You can read the entire story here: http://www.statesman.com/news/content/news/stories/local/09/30/0930video.html

Would you rather have trigger-happy police use real guns and bullets? By the looks of things, its either that or the tasers. I don't know about you, but if the police misunderstood my actions as being hostile I'd definitely prefer to be tasered. But that's just me.....

If you are in a situation where a cop feels threatend a taser is a better choice yes, but it seems like officers are using tasers for any if not all situations now, such as this last video clip, if the officer had just used a little patience and waited for the person to gather their liccence and proof of insurence none of that would have happened. I also have noticed in the news that people are still being shot and killed in situations were a taser could have been used. one such incident was were a mentally ill man was shot because the police thought he had a gun, it turned out to be a hair brush.

i kinda view the use of tasers as herding the sheeple with electric prods. it's just reflective of the fact that we've been converted from free individuals with rights to indistiguishable members of the herd with the right only to be exploited and slaughtered.

It's a POLICE STATE, people! Most U.S. cities operate this way, and the mentality is spreading like a virus. It's Big Brother's pathetic attempt to keep their control intact throughout the coming changes. They will never give up their power, they are controlled by the fear of losing it.

It's an experiment to see how far they can really go. (?)

Sometimes I get REALLY paranoid and start thinking that even the alternative news sites that report on these things all the time are actually helping the bad guys by de-sensitizing people to hearing about it daily.... Not really, but you know what I mean. This shit would make anybody paranoid. Because no matter how often we hear about things like this, nothing happens except it gets worse.

We ARE in it, people! It's not "coming" any more.

I ran into an old and crazy (but well connected) friend of mine today and she declares that they are going to use all the Wallmarts for detention centers. Apparently they are all set up perfectly for it, just like all the new schools that are being built...

I've said probably a hundred times, people (any of YOU, all of you) should make websites and blogs about ANY evil police activity in your areas. The more the better. The internet needs to be flooded with reports of police wrongdoing.

Now I get to shamelessly advertise my contribution one more time! I made a blog that covers local corruption, and more so I couldn't be accused of just bashing local cops... Then I got accused of it anyhow, but oh well. The cops don't like it, but seem not to be able to do anything about it. The judges and magistrates read it occasionally too. Lord only knows who else. http://calhoununderground.wordpress.com
Anyhow, it's not that hard to make one, and if I'd stop being a hermit long enough to go out visitin' I could be writing at least an article a week...

What is the penalty for driving without licence plates on your vehicle anyway?

In MD, a $40 fine that you can go to court and explain away and get the fine dropped.

this extreme use of tasers sounds rather cowardly on the officer's part if you ask me. im not saying all cops are bad, but the thing is these guys make all of em look terrible! it makes people lose faith in their country and the law as well... shame

Here, it would depend on what your last name is...

If you are on the "respectable" list, they'd probably just toss it out at majestrate court. If you are not, the penalty would be being handcuffed and harassed and cursed at, maybe called some really bad names, your car would be illegally searched, you would be charged with bogus charges like "defective equipment" and if you didn't HAVE defective equipment, the cops would make sure you DID before you left the scene... Plus they'd KEEP your drivers lisence so you'd have to pay to get a replacement. Thank GOD these monkeys haven't discovered the joys of tasers yet.

This increased use of tasers with the excuse by the offending officer that they felt threatened just demonstrates to me that they are not trained professionals in any sense of the word, merely hired armed muscle.

That was a fucked up video... hopefully that cop isn't still out there -- shit just imagine what he would do if you were speeding 10 mph over the speed limit.
