Hey all, I've been playing around with the idea of felting some multicoloured sort of material into my dreads - that is, so that they actually become part of the dreads... I've seen pictures of this done here and there (and one on this forum, actually); so my question to those people (or anyone else with suggestions - is how is it done? and what kind of material is best? (for keeping in your hair in the long-term) I would immediately assume wool is the best option, but I've read some criticisms of the fact that it is a hassle to wash because it 'smells funny when wet' (howwwww attractive...) and because it dries very slowly. Heh. I'm guessing the latter contributes to the former Any help or suggestions would be very very chill. Thanks guys!
well i have half of one of my bigger dreats felted with some mad multicolour wool! seem to be doing just fine
Here's the tutorial I posted about felting wool into dreadlocks..... http://www.hipforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=262661 I have had no problem whatsoever with the wool smelling when wet. It's a natural fiber..... it washes and dries just like my un-felted dreadlocks do, and I have even dyed over some of the wool felting, and it takes dyes just like human hair does. When I posted the tutorial I said that I didnt think the felt could be removed that easily at all, but since posting the tutorial I have removed the felting in two of my dreads (so I could remove the dreads themselves to create bangs/fringe) and the wool was able to be removed quite easily.
that sounds cool. i want a some =] i also like rapping the dread, because if its not dreading properly you rap it for 2 months and it comes out realy good, and it looks nice
