    Nice discussion by the way.

Judging by the 30 or so full books i have filled up....

    I consider myself a writer...

    Have I been published? No....

Anywhere from stories, to essays I just felt like writing, to poetry...if it genuinly expresses how I feel...its art....

    I am a writer...maybe someday...a published one....

If a person writes meaningful thoughts down...regularly...and expresses themself through writing...they are a writer...

The everyday, the mundane, the meaningless....that is what everyone writes...lists...reminders...thats not a writer....

    I like this topic.

I disagree I think talent is instinctive, I myself am vastly talented in many disciplines and was born that way. I would know so your argument is silly as einstein would have agreed with me !

well it matters if you want a definition of what it is to be a writer in the ordinary sense of the word.

OK lets take your idea that a writer is just someone who writes
Ok so now remember that sketch in Crocodile Dundee where he says "Call that a knife, (its a huge dagger) then dundee pulls out this enormous machette and says " no mate, this is a knife"

same with writers - you say to your friend "I am a writer" then immediately after you spot David Lodge walking by, and your friend says , "no mate, that is a writer" !
