My hair is sooo short and I started to let it dread up naturally not that long ago but when it did it didn't work so well. My hair is so uneven I am thinking I might have to let it grow more to actually dread up. Anyone have their dreadlocks start up on a really uneven head of hair here with sucess??? My original dreadlocks were backcombed and my hair was long then so I'm not quite sure what to do.

i started real short and the natural process has actually progressed pretty well - less shrinkage cause its already short - and so there are faster results. plus they grow in better if started shorter obviously cause with so much less hair there is a lot less to tighten up, so they grow in tight instead of contract like the neglect process from long starting length

so for the least, just stop combing

My hair was barely shoulder length and it seems to be doing pretty well (2 weeks in). I don't know how shorter than that would do unless you did natural.

I had a mohawk and now that its grown out the hair that should dread together is having a tough time because of the difference in length. I stopped combing for about 6-7 mo and when they started really forming it wasn't doing so well. I'm a girl, I care to an extent what I look like, lol. half my hair is past my nose and the rest is rather short... not shaved short though, it is laying. I actually am considering shaving my head or letting it get cut short to one length and start from the beginning again and let it go from there.

mine are coming a long fine. I started with 4 inches of hair. The only thing I have to complain about is that they are really thin, but as they grow out they should fatten back up.

My hair's shortish, it's not passed my shoulders, but it's taken to neglect pretty well, and i'm ~7 months in,
It's cool with short hair you notice the difference a lot, but i could be saying that just because i don't know any better!

Man, people are complaining about 6 inches of hair being too short.

Making me want to wait a little bit, considering my hair is only 3 inches, just reaches the middle of my brows when pulled down.

Is that good enough? And in time will they get thicker?

I'm really wanting dreads again. I had a gorgeous set a couple of years ago but chopped them off for my wedding. I'm seriously thinking it time to dread again. My hair is really uneven in length as I am growing out a mohawk as well....some parts are 6 inches, some are around 4. I figure that I'll give it a try anyway because I wear a bandana most of the time anyway.
