where to get sheets of magnet? like the flat ones you get at pizza places, only before they are cut out? I want to cover some of the vents in this apartment, and save money at night, but I dont want to replace them entirely.
and then I can make crafty type things with what I dont use, saving money on heat, and holiday presents!

does anyone know what to call them, or where to find them? I know you can have them printed but that would be silly to pay for.

Umm try your local hardware store or crafts store? What makes you think that a bunch of stoners would know where to find sheets of magnet? lol

I have good ideas every once in a while! yippee! but, yea this place gets so cold, and all the walls are plasterboard, so I cant even thumbtack fabric and quilts to the wall.
I hate plasterboard. well, i guess ill be headed to the store tomorrow.

i think i know what you mean now by like just blocking off some of the vents in rooms your not going to be in. but i think that you could do it just as easily but just putting something over the vent. but if you really want to save some money on your heat at night i would just get a heat blanket for your bed and turn the furnace down. i have a heat blanket and its nice for cold nights and we can keep the heat down lower at night.

My dad has them and uses them in our house.

Go to home depot and ask for them. They have specific kinds especially for this purpose that fit perfectly.

use more blankets or a heat blanket like i got and turn the heat down at night so it doesnt kick on and off as much. if you turn the themostat down at night the furnace doesnt have to come on as much which in turn saves energy.

    What is plasterboard?

    Isn't like drywall or something???

Also why don't you invest in a heated mattress pad. You can have dual controls for both sides if you have a big bed, or you can just have one for the whole thing. I use mine every single night and if I didn't I'd freeze. Also like donvito suggested turning the thermostat down a couple degrees is a good idea. That way the heat won't come on unless it gets too cold.

Also use more blankets, and make sure that your kid is bundled up good.

In my state you can get these people to come to your house and wrap your furnace and stuff to help save energy. I think they also apply weather stripping to your windows or something like that. You can get it for free or through your landlord if you do it. I never have cause I just don't care as much, but you might also be able to apply for heating assistance through your town hall if your income is low enough.

There is a ton of stuff that can help you at this time of year, you just have to be responsible enough to find and do it.
