I'm very interested in astrology. However, I know very little about it. I'm hoping this thread is a hit for clueless people like myself to ask questions. And for informed people to answer, of course. I'm a cancer (June 29th). All I know is that I am a water sign and a crab. I know there's more to it than that. But what? And I've read a few threads about ascending signs. Question mark? I did tell you I was clueless. And finally, I have a friends who is a virgo/libra (born Sept. 22) how can that be? Where can I find 'official' dates of the zodiac? Any help would be awesome... P.S. I have a thread stickied to the top of this forum! I'm not sure what your first question is, but on to your second question... The dates of the zodiac that you are talking about are the Sun signs. Since I do traditional astrology, I don't use them at all since they are modern, and I don't think they really do anything useful. However, most modern astrologers use them, and most people are accustomed to thinking about them when discussing astrology. If you look at your average newspaper horoscope, as crappy as those are, the dates you see for the signs are the normal dates for the Sun signs. These dates are part of what's called tropical astrology which is pretty much what most people use going all the back to ancient Greece. The other kind is called Sidereal astrology, and the only difference is a few days. I'm too lazy to type out all the dates, but here's a link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sidereal_astrology Sideral is used mostly for Vedic (Indian) astrology. Many people think that sidereal astrology is more accurate than tropical, but this is due to the fact that most people don't realize that astrology uses signs not constellations. At the end of the day the big difference is where you "start" the zodiac.
Your Cancer sun sign indicates that your general personality is family oriented, sensitive, emotional, moody, a bit crabby, nurturing, and protective of your emotions and friends. The fact that Cancer is a water sign indicates that its predominantly ruled by the emotions and likely has an attunement to the feelings of others and makes you very receptive on an almost psychic level. Your friend is born on the day that the sun transits from Virgo to Libra, which means they're on the cusp. Cusps are usually interpreted in a multitude of ways. It could mean that he/she acts more like a Virgo than a Libra, or vice versa, or that they have a good amount of traits of both signs twisted into their personality. It might be a better idea to turn to the ascendant to find a more accurate description in that case. Just ask yourself, do they seem more cold, distant, and critical? Or flighty, social, and romantic? Just go to google or something and search "Zodiac Signs". You'll get loads of results that I'm sure will give you the most accurate dates for each sign.
