I personally love Irvine Welsh. I discovered him of course due to "Trainspotting." After seeing the movie a ton of times I went on to read the book which is even more interesting than the movie and then later read the 'second chapter' to "Trainspotting" a book he wrote called "Porno".

Well, I decided to branch away from the whole "Trainspotting" lads and try out one of his other books. I manged to stumble into "Filth".

"Filth" was an excellent book. A bit disjointed at times (as he does write in parts as the tapeworm living inside this disgusting copper) but it was so gritty and dark that I just loved it.

    Here's a review from Amazon.
If you like a unique storyline and aren't put off by strong language and random acts of violence. Definitely check out "Filth" it will certainly make you think twice when you see a cop walking down the street in their black, flannel trousers. Trust me. :)

Oh, I nearly forgot (as it has been about a year since I read it) the ending has the biggest twist. It left me haunted and disturbed for days afterwards.
I only just remembered it. I won't give it away, but damn. Just one more reason that I'd say this is one of my favourite books.

I like the way Welsh's characters inhabit a shared world and make crossovers into his other books. It's something I'll probably use to a degree in my books, though probably not quite so explicitly - more a couple of cameos here and there. I loved the film of Trainspotting, and I'm really looking forward to the film of Porno, I'd like to see where those characters played by those actors end up....

They are making a film of "Porno"? I did not know this. In fact there is nothing on IMDB about it. But I see that "Meat Trade" and "Ecstacy" (which is also a good book) are being made into films.

I even liked "Wedding Belles" when they showed that on telly a few weeks ago. I just love his gritty working class characters.

I think I heard somewhere that they were making Porno - if they can get Ewan McGreggor and Robert Carlysle back it'd be wicked....

"Filth" is a great book, pretty much like everything else he writes.
"Porno" being made a movie would be great but it would need the cast and director from "Trainspotting" to work i think.

I would like to see Filth made into a movie as Robert Carlysle would make a great Bruce Robertson. What a piece of work that character is.

i agree with both of you. Porno would only work with the original cast from Trainspotting, and I really think this needs to be "Green-lighted" immediately. Danny Boyle would have to direct again too. Maybe we should start a petition. ;)

Filth would also make an awesome, gritty movie. And yes, Robert Carlysle would would make a great Bruce Robertson, trying to think of who else might; but can't at the moment. That would be a fantastic film in fact ... hmm ... let's start a petition for that as well. :)

I've asked for a new Irvine Welsh book for Christmas, so here's to the hope of receiving it. (Sadly can't remember now which one I asked for).

[IMG] Yip, get that petition going and get Carlyle, McGregor and Boyle off their arses and get this done before they're too old to play the parts!

Btw, you could do worse than get "Glue" for X-mas.
    Great book.

I've only ever read "The Acid House". Will have to check this one out when I have the time.
