For some things, I could be either a liberal (prostitution), conservative (abortion), Libertarian (Privatization), and etc. I believe that you don't have to be labeled what political party that you are. A political party can limit your thinking, and it can prevent you from finding the best answer to any problem. The best way to limit your thinking is by labeling yourself. I believe in progression when you can, and conservatism when you cannot. It's very human to label people. I'm not a liberal, conservative, libertarian, etc. I am just a guy that is trying to figure out the best course of action, by using both logic and heart.
I don't follow politics as they are simply labels given to us to follow. They want us to pick sides so they can better control the population and keep people divided. But the fact is politics are irrelevant because at the top the same few people control all sides. Politics have always been for public consumption, and the fact is whether it's a Democrat or Republican in office, they are all reading from the same script. This is why nothing really changes, regardless of who's elected. Democracy is simply the sham you're expected to believe in. With that said, I have much disdian for liberalism and liberal politics, which is almost always associated with "equality" and "tolerance," but is much different once you peel away the flowery facade.
Politics for me is a hellava lot more interesting than say: television soap operas or sports, gambling, casinos, horse racing, NASCAR, religous zealots fashion, celebrities, collecting things, antique cars or other persuits. In politics, If I am speaking with someone who I totaly disagree with, we still have more in common with each other than say, with a NASCAR fan. We can still respect each other even if we are not on the same page. Gotta understand, plenty of people are uninterested though.
People who are not interested in politics are the kind of people who could easily be trampled over by some kind of dictatorship. If you pay no interest to who is controlling the country and what they are doing.. then you could wake up one day in a facist prison and not be able to do anything about it.. Adolf Hitler for example was very good at pulling the wool over the eyes of the public.. with propaganda etc... most people in Germany (who weren't Jewish/Black etc) let him do what he wanted.. and before they knew it they were living in Nazi Germany. If you pay attention to what is hapening (this doesn't mean that you have to vote) then at least you will know when something dodgy is going on.
I don't know if I agree about that there aren't non-political people. I still consider myself one. Closest kind of ideology seems to be socialistic. Some mellow form of it. Democracy sounded good too at first, so I guess we (the people AND the politicians) would fuck any system up.
I would have once considered myself a liberal, however, as I've gotten older (and wiser I believe), I'm not always looking at the world through rose colored glasses, I feel that I see things more realistically, and my main goal is to do what is right by my family first and foremost. Sadly, I've come to find that sometimes liberalism can be a bit extreme, unrealistice and justice is not being served when it well indeed should be, or things are happening in this world that need to have an end put to them, not supported. With that being said, my political viewpoints tend to be in between. I'm not even quite sure what I would consider myself. I know I see a lot going on in this world that I am absolutely disgusted by, but I feel helpless. I can't exactly put myself in jeopardy of being arrested marching out in front of the White House as much as I may want to. *laughs* I have a family I have to be here for! My husband is a conservative, borderline republican, NRA supporting 33 year old man. Funny match we make you might think. He too, was once an extreme liberal, in his days on long hair, rock and roll band playing. He too got older, had a family, and suddenly his viewpoints started to shift. I tend to think he can be a bit stubborn about his political views, and I most definitely have a softer spot than he does, but...such is life.
