Making like a upside down pipe?

So, of the pont is to get the smoke, can I make a pipe where you put the weed inside, and light it from underneath? The smoke will go upwards to a mouthpiece at the top.
Will this work?

 

the only problem i can think of is that you might be pulling the weed up away from the flame as you inhale.

I think this is a good method, because no smoke is wasted, and it gathers in the chamber thing.
