yeah thats long enough. if you backcomb, they will be like almost half as short, though. then they would fall out. i would just start natural

agreeing with adrien here. just stop brushing, it's probably the best way to go at that length.

takes some time. especially with straight, fine hair like it seems yours is. it'll happen in time.

get a wool beanie and wear it for a month solid, or even just a bandana. i did a bandana for a month and a half, then switched to a wool beanie, and now my dreads are finally pronounced. its been three months and some change and i finally see dreads poppin in. i tried to backcomb but when they all fell out i went over to another board and found the path to rightousness in natural route

backcombed and washed it about 4 days after with regular shampoo and everything came out

and that was 3 months ago...then i went over to knottylocks to bitch about it and all of the naturalist purist guys got to me...so now here i am...eep!

(best decision i ever made - not to re-backcomb)

i think let someone backcomb your hair works much faster cuz you got really straight fine hair.

they look great, but dont worry about them coming out, its gonna happen and you just gotta let it. they will reform eventually, believe me. you could try rounding the tips with a crochet hook or felting needle though if you really want to force them to stay backcombed.
