Don't know if Joan Jett/Runaways count but JJ is the greatest female rock-n-roller there ever was or will be.

    Ditto

Though Outta Me by Bikini Kill is one of my favorite songs ever.

And another not so well known girl grunge/riot grrrl band everyone should check out is 7 Year Bitch

Well I don't know what the original poster is looking for exactly, but here are some pop-punk bands I recommend:

    Lillix
    The Material
    Be Your Own Pet
    Yeah Yeah Yeahs
    The Eyeliners
    The Donnas

I love Sleater-Kinney, Le Tigre, Julie Ruin, Bikini Kill, and Babes in Toyland. I would obsessively listen to riot grrrl and female-fronted punk/grunge bands in my early teen years. They've never lost their appeal... great music.

It was part of the 'grunge movement'...and a lot of these bands wanted to make it solely through independent labels...they believed in 'keeping the music real' and wanted to create a post-punk female movement which talked about female issues and had female members...it was totally cool, i would say bikini kill for sure...a lot of bands and music these days have emulated this, it's rad.
