I search Google news for articles on "pit bulls", just to read and know what's going on with the laws in different states/cities/towns. Yesterday, I found an article, but I just found this one (with a picture and video) today - http://www.wkbw.com/news/local/12519491.html An animal shelter worker cut the throat and head of a pit bull in the shelter, as well as stabbed the dog, during a holiday party at the shelter. They did catch the man who did it and he will be charged for it. Almost everyone knows that pit bulls are under attack in the news/media, but now, innocent, friendly dogs are being attacked by an animal shelter worker who has been there for over 20 years?! What are we coming to?
It has always bothered me how people discriminate against specific dog breeds which they know nothing about and simply buy into media hype which labels a breed of dog as "dangerous", "vicious" or simply "beasts". If only these same people could look past their uninformed ignorance and place the blame for a dogs' behavior on the human being(s) who made them that way in the first place. I have always believed, it is these twisted and cruel people who are the true monsters on earth and they are the ones who should be outlawed or banished to an island in the middle of nowhere with nothing but others of their kind. I hope they prosecute that cruel jerk to the fullest extent of the law and publish it in his local newspaper so his neighbors know there is a true creep in their presence.
Breed specific laws FUCKING suck! They are a risk to everyone who loves dogs of any breed. When is YOUR breed next?
Exactly. And now, they aren't just being attacked by the media and law-enforcement, but the general public and even dog-friendly workers?! The man is lucky that the dog was so extremely human-friendly and well-behaved, and in a kennel, because if he would have attacked MY boy, he'd have lost his face to the dog, or have a price on his head right now. In happier news, here in my own community (southwest Florida) they held a "Pittie Party" in Naples (really close to where I live, Ft. Myers) yesterday, they had speeches, a little parade, etc. and all were well-behaved and very friendly towards each-other. I'm glad that, not only in my community, but in Florida where dog-fighting is still a huge issue, they're stressing the importance of good ownership and training VS. just destroying all of the dogs. And trying to remove the image that pit bulls are all terrible and out to kill.
I wish I had gone! I live not far from there in Tampa Bay!!! We LOVE pits in this family!!! PM if you want to talk more and get together at another event.
That is so saddening.. I can't believe that people can hurt animals that way... what the fuck is wrong with people like that.. Jesus H. Christ...
There are insane people on earth I think there isn't bad dogs, they just follow their instincts, and a dog will act like it's trained by its master... There isn't bad dogs, just bad trainers! And I not only talk about trainers who hit their dogs, or train them to attack other people, I talk about good persons who don't even know how to train a dog, and act with them as they act with humans. Please! Learn how to train a dog before you decide to buy one :/
I'm not trying to pick a fight, but I wanted to wonder exactly what you meant by this. What you said is basically a contradiction. Nature vs. Nurture What I get from your statement is that "bad dogs" are just following their instincts, BUT a dog will not act bad unless trained to do such??? Lol, help me out here.
To me, breed specific prejudice is no better than human racism. It all stems from the same basic premise. Ignorance. And I think what Adrienovich is getting at is that MOST domestic dogs no matter the breed, for the most part, are good dogs naturally and it's all about how they are raised and taught to live in our society. There are some breeds that are easier to do this well with than others, but ALL dogs if raised right from the right age will be "good dogs" and not "bad ones". It is admittedly not 100% fool proof as there is once in a great RARE while a dog that no matter it's upbringing, will be aggressive and will not make it in our society. These are usually dogs that have some kind of medical issue that makes them that way, it's not the nature of the dog OR the breed itself. It's pretty safe to say that most the dogs out there that are considered "bad dogs" are the way they are because of how they were brought up (or not brought up). It's not their fault. Their nature is to be good, but nurture can make them either way. This is why breed specific laws are so idiotic. It has nothing to do with the animal. It's all about the people who were responsible for the dog from the day it was born.
yeah, I'm french and learning english, maybe I'm not expressing myself very well... a dog will act according with its instincts, so if a dog is not trained correctly, it will 'think' it is the chief, and not accept being touched on the head by a child or another person, and the dog will bite the child's face. But in that case I think we can't blame the dog, wich follow its instincts, but the master, who has not trained his dog to be in submission with any human. Can you understand me ?
I get you, I read that you were learning English after I posted, sorry, I didn't mean to come across as an ass. <3
