Hey guys I'm new to the forums, I've read around and you seem like a helpfull bunch, so Im hoping you might be able to shed some light on something thats been bugging me for a while..

Ever since I was 13 I have smoked pot, sometimes 5 times a week, sometimes not for months at a time. And this worked great, because it allowed me to get my study's done in high school and whatnot.
Then when I started getting a little older (16-17'ish) I started looking into other 'harder' drugs. I now have done opiates 5-7 times, sometimes using cold water extraction on pain pills (codeine) and sometimes Poppy Seed Tea. Now people are starting to notice that I am not on my A-Game, I feel like a junkee sometimes, even though I dont consider myself one, people always look down on me. My question is that, when is it an addiction? when I start feinding for PST in class and rush to the supermarket to but Poppy or pain pills? or when I start blowing off reality for opiates?

Any Input would be appreciated, and some similar stories would be interesting.

    Thanks guys-

When drugs start interfering with your life and they make you miss school, work, or whatever... I consider that to be an addiction.

A lot of people cant handle drugs AND getting their shit done, but some CAN get it done no matter how fucked up they are. Just decide whether it's interfering with your life and then go from there.

Thanks mate, I mean like I wouldnt smoke pot if i had maths, or a test for any lesson, and the same thing goes for opiates. Are they easy to develop an addiction to?

Yes they have one of the highest potential for addiction (and tolerance which is even worse) next to alcohol, benzos, and amphetamines. You sound like you haven't fully experienced the inescapable grasp of opiates yet. I would strongly recommend you forget about them or that you ever tried them. This will be hard for you to understand, but they will take you over once you get into them on a regular basis. They will become your best friend until it stabs you in the back. Some people are strong enough to do it on and off, but they are few and far between. I never spent a penny on useless stuff until I started doing opiates(pills), and I haven't even done heroin(and don't plan to). If you are looking for a love/hate relationship start dating miss opiate.
My advice, keep smoking pot if you can. Find some dank heads and enjoy.

I had to stop pot due to job and potential drug testing, so I turned to my next favorite thing... opiates. I do have cronic pain, but will admit the abuse potential is even more of a reason I use em. Please take my advice opiates do have to potential for ruining your life. Are they awsome? Yes, I won't lie. Is it worth it? No, I can't forsee myself quiting.
Dont hesitate to PM me if you want to talk more.

If your addicted to poppy seed tea and codeine you need to just go ahead and end your life.......

If your not on your a-game that has nothing to do with you not drinking poppy seed tea and doing codeine every once in a while. If your feeling like a junky from that your probably one of these kids I have seen that actually WANT to be junkies.

My advice. Get on with your life. And if you do really think you are addicted to poppies and codeine at least move on to much better opiates, oxy, fent, dilaudid, smack....etc

Thats horrible advice. If he is addicted that easy he just need to stop. If he is addicted to that, anything stronger would be the end of him.

Guys thank for the advice, and let me clear something up. Its not so much that I feel like a junkee (despite what I said, worded it wrong =\ ) Its that i get paronoid sometimes that i am becoming a junkee, And Telling me to kill myself isnt gonna make me do it. Im neither depressed nor happy. Just a content student who likes to escape reality..

PS: Just made some PST and gonna go watch a movie, be back later =)

You sound like a young guy that was me about ten (ok 16) years ago. I used to take anything that would get me fucked up. Then one night after being up for several day I got really drunk on an emty stomach and went driving. To make a long story short I ended losing my right to drive and having to move back in with my parents. No drugs just boredom. Then I started to drink and that lasted through my twenties and early 30's. The thing is I still would have partied only did so more in moderation. I missed out on alot because I was either too fucked up to drive or just wanted to sit at home and get wasted. Now I fucked up my back and I'm on these pain meds but if I don't take them I get all fucked up too. Man I wish I would have stuck to guitar and smoking weed things would have turned out so much better!

I would have to agree with Oxy, it just depends on the person if they can accomplish what they need to while fucked up. I think it's hella fun to go to school on all sorts of stuff because I can look at stuff from a different angle.

My advice is look at where you started noticing yourself going downhill, and reverse any changes you made at that time.

if you are having problems with Poppy Seed Tea and Codeine, DONT go use stronger opiates. For me, codeine doesn't do much of anything and PST gives only a light, though pleasant, high. I haven't had any addiction problems so far even with a lot stronger opiates, but don't use others as a model for yourself, only you can know what works, and what doesn't for your own body/mind.

Pretty much what everyone on here is saying is good advice except for GanjaGuru. The fact that you recognize a potential addiction in yourself is also good. Right now I don't really see a problem with you doing PST and codeine. Like other people said, don't do any stronger opiates, you will find that you will like them way too much and that is when shit will go down hill fast.

codeine is very mild compared to other opiates. From what I gathered, it seems like your all set as of now. Trust me, if you were a "junkie" you would know it, there wouldn't be any doubts. But if your afraid of an addictive personality that has lain dormant within you: I wouldnt progress to anything stronger.

And to clear things up, weed isn't REALLY addictive.

Psychologically addictive, yes. But, it's not the same. If you really want to know more, just check out some of the websites on the internet for information. Google it.

Yeah I did an assignment paper on weed in grade 10. And Its has the same effect as a rollercoaster (metophoricly of course) as in: You ride a rollercoaster (aka smoke weed) and it was fun, so you want to do it again, because it was fun. When you ride a rollercoaster they dont put anything in your body that makes you phychologically addicted to it, and the same goes for weed =).

To answer your question: Addiction is defined as how you respond to the absence of your subtance. you're addicted when you're affected negatively from not taking your substance, either mentally or physically. if you think about it alot and crave it when you don't take it, you're addicted.
