Hi fellow Aussies (and aussie enthusiasts):H I'm new to the site, so thought I'd make myself known, so yeah HI! I would just like to put a little piece down on aussie patriotism. I've been overseas backpacking the last year, (due to go back again in march) but it hit HARD when I was away, just how FREAKN lucky we are. I've never been patriotic in the boastful sense, but boy oh boy did I hollar for our boys in the world cup (and cry when beaten by england) I feel proud to come from a country that has come soooo far in such a little time frame. (I'm not taking the piss) but, I absolutely detested the English Gentry thing they have going on over there, beautiful country but that snobbery is crap!! We were treated like HIRED HELP for majority of our employment over there, it put a sour taste in my mouth.:leaving: I could NOT believe it was still like that in this day & age.!!! I LOVE HOW AUSSIES HOLD STRONG to the TALL POPPY SYNDROME...."too big for ya boots!?" "Not a worry, we'll take ya down a peg or too".....we still have the upper crusts, but we poke fun more than bow down. The SCOTTISH ARE ALSO A WICKED BUNCH OF BEINGS AS WELL! Welcoming, friendly & they love the drink. Anyways, Just wanted to say fellow aussies....Enjoy our summer nights, our drinking weather & our amazing beaches, because we are UNIQUE TO THE WORLD....stubby coolers and all (DONT KNOW HOW MANY PEOPLE TRIED TO STEAL MY STUBBY COOLER, DAMN THEM!)
Hi Sweetaslex, welcome to the Aussie group. I'm new myself. Was thinking of going over to Britain next year. I've got an old resident who likes to do trips and he's paying, so I'm not arguing lol. What you say about the poms, well, that's what I thought anyway, so I'm sticking to Ireland and Scotland where they know how to party. Recently i went on a cruise with old Bob to Malaysia Thailand and Vietnam. Wow, was I glad to come home to our wonderful Oz. It's the best country in the world. Hope to catch up with you on the boards, cheers Hippymuso
Definately Ireland & Scotland, definately reccomend northern scotland, up in the highlands, I lived there in a small village for about 4 months and Southern Ireland, Cork, Limerick....dublin is very much a mini london....its beautiful, I totally respect the Irish and scots, they've endured hard times to have what they have. I've done quite a lot of Personal Care work as well, actually looked after a beautiful old jewish woman, related to Seigfriend Sassoon, very wealthy family, full of rich family history. I adore the elderly, they are like children to me, and I love to brighten up their days, even when i'm older, if i can still get around I'll be doing meals on wheels or something to help them be happy & comfortable......I wish we had a little more respect as a NATION towards our elderly. They should be respected for their wisdom & contribution to society...... Nice to meet you, hope to see you around some more!
Hello here, I feel lucky and blessed to have had the oppotunity to visit australia several times, and shared times with beautiful people. Very often when I was there I asked aussies if they are aware of there lucky. I felt that they think it is normal. It is ! It is how really life should be. Good company and not too hard living... But it is not like that in all the world. Then I thought about hippies in the 70 that thought that there harmony will last always. It didn't last always for everybody. That's why now I think it is very important to well understand, when we live a perfect harmony, to note what are the ingredients, what could be the real cause of our happyness, why it didn't last, why and how some other people could maintain there happyness. I wish you all, all the very best !
Hi Rosa, yep, you're right, I didn't really appreciate how lucky we are in Oz till I went overseas to Asia. Boy, was I happy to get home, welcome to the group mate, cheers Hippymuso
I have noticed a sudden jump in patriotism in Australia. Might have something to do with the ousted 10 year Fascist Government. The new one is doing good things already, we have signed kyoto, are against japans whaling and have ships trying to stop it, we are about to say sorry to our native aboriginals for stealing their children and brainwashing them. Things are looking up
