There's something quite disturbing about a post-menopausal woman talking about periods and penises....
I'd rather listen to her go on about periods and penises than say Al Murray - really don't get him. Male comedians can probably get away with a lot more than a female, although I have to say all my favourite comedians are male.
Al Murray's act is a brilliant satire on the sexist, homophobic, xenophobic Great British public(an)....
He can be good, though it slightly annoys me that whatever he's doing he always looks like he's reading off autocue. You can imagine him in a conversation with his parents talking like that. He did the same degree as me....
I went to see him in August (for the second time!) and about 20 mins in,smoke began filling the room and this security guy open the side door - great big fire! Jimmy was the only person to talk to people and tell us to leave the building, the staff did nothing! Then he came to meet everyone in the car park and I grab his arm like a loonie and wouldn't let go until i got a photo!! mmmmmm
Jimmy Carr's stand-up act is probably less funny Catherine Tate:tongue: Lists and lists of old jokes reeled off one after the other with no purpose or connection, dull, uninspired and unimaginative
But still funnier than Catherine Tate. Honestly, syphillis is funnier than her. And I only really like Carr when he's a figure of fun for or is interacting with other comedians. He's quite good on QI when being more spontaneous, but I agree, his rehearsed material, though empirically funnier than Catherine Tate's, is generally not that great....
That's because she's a veteran of the "alternative comedy" scene of the 1980s when jokes about periods and willies were new and "daring". Alexei Sayle summed it up best: he said the reason it was called "alternative" comedy was because "it's not fookin' funny".
There are loads of funny female comedians. I think a lot of them are not given coverage by mainstream media. Check out Josie Long if you're ever in London. She's awesome.
ah, well, my sense of humor really isn't all that refined. if i can laugh at a guy singing "i've got a twelve inch dick and a dozen roses" i can pretty much laugh at anything. including bitching about genitalia and periods.
Hattie Hayridge is not a bad female comedian, one of a few comediennes who's material is more than just fanny and fat jokes. She's given some great performances on 'Have I Got News For You' in the past. Catherine Tate's old woman sketch is great observational comedy, she also swears a lot which is cheap but catchy. Although on the whole she is shit which leads me to agree blokies are better AT IT!? Riding around city centres on unicycles!
I have to admit that 'joke' isn't mine, it's from Norman's own act when he used to do stand-up. He used to say how fed up he was with people saying 'I bet you do'.
ooh anyone remember Kumars at No. 42??? they were hilarious especially Sanjay Bhaskar I think his name was...... Catherine Tate is funny in my opinion... (but heck i find alot of things funny) hahah red dwarf... so youre a waffle man?? kid i know used to be OBSESSED with would you like some toast? i was gonna say something else. bt i cant remember, in fact nor do i want to remember.
