probly meddle or a saucerful of secrets. jugband blues if my favorite floyd song right now but thats subject to change almost weekly. befor blues careful with that axe, eugene was my favorite.
i got nothing, those are the only ones ive heard, but my hippie friends all love saucerful of secrets
I still go with Dark Side. My favorite to listen to now is probably Animals, because it is also amazing and has the added bonus of its songs not being heard on the readio. Nothing beats the way DSOTM flows though, and even though I've heard all the songs so many times, I can still see that.
i've long thought animals was the best i've heard, ever since middle school. since then i still haven't heard ALL their albums, but there are a lot with very unique characters. i'd say ummagumma has some particularly interesting stuff on there, but animals is far better as a whole album, the way it flows, everything. it's wonderful!
Animals is a very very weak album in the instrumental aspect, especially when compared to works a work of pure psychedelic art such as Ummagumma. Anyhow, this is a silly question for it is impossible to answer it.
to each his own. i like it. i think its a good album. ummagumma is certainly more psychedelic, more innovative, and even probably influencial. but overall i generally prefer listening to animals from start to finish than ummagumma. i appreciate ummagumma more for originality and genius.... but as an album, as a whole piece, i think animals is more enjoyable. i don't know enough about the music and how hard or easy it is to create to say which is better from a technical standpoint. i'm not really a musician. but i know what i like. as a whole, i enjoy listening to animals as a single piece more than any other pink floyd album i'm familiar with. i like a lot of different things for different reasons, and i dont always prefer the more cutting edge or brilliant over other things. i generally prefer whatever i find to be the most enjoyable, regardless of what about it i find particularly enjoyable.
i really like the album wish you were here all the songs on it are really good, especially shine on you crazy diamond and wish you were here, of course edit: sorry i read the post wrong. i'd say momentary lapse of reason.. learning to fly is one of my favorite songs
^ Yea wish you were here is an amazing album. I like DSOTM and Wish you were here, and some of Animals.
piper at the gates of dawn is incredible. meddle is also very good as i remember, but i've only heard it two or three times
wtf... maybe in the experimental aspect, but Animals is probably their most instrumentally progressive effort. I'm not saying I don't like Ummagumma, it's one of my faves, not instrumentally, but experimentally. It takes much less effort with an instrument to come up with experimental psychedelia like Ummagumma then to come up with riffs that progress along the way to complete a beautiful 17ish minute song like Dogs or a great melody flow like Pigs. Therefore, Ummagumma is an experimental work of art, not necessarily instrumental. My fave album out of the big 3s would have to be Meddle, mainly for Echoes, there are some weak songs on Meddle but Echoes is just too awesome.
You make a good point, it's more experimental than instrumental... but you must realize that the experimental music is also made with instruments. I guess that I'm just learning to appreciate the oddness of experimental music more than plain pretty guitar lately. I can play practically all of Animals on the guitar, which doesn't mean it's not good... but it leaves something to be wanted. But yes, Echoes is great.
Best, WYWH, by far the perfect balance had been found between music and lyrics. But to get away from the DSOTM-The Wall days, More is a really great album, there's some filler on there, but it's loaded with fabulous songs, Cymbaline, Green is the Colour, Cirrus Minor, Main Theme, Dramtic Theme, Up the Khyber, even The Nile Song and Ibiza Bar just show the Floyd rocking out. Obscured by Clouds too, the other soundtrack album which is just a great solid album from side to side. The Final Cut is definitly one of my top Floyd albums, it's either a love or hate album for everyone, and while I think it may not sound very "Floydish", it's a beautiful album.
I like The Final Cut more than I like The Wall. People give me shit about it all the time. I guess that I've just listened to The Wall so many times that I can't appreciate it as much anymore.
