i live in the middle of nowhere, filled with rednecks. there are no black people around at all, so if there is a black person in town the ''racist'' group starts to kick in on the chance to bash their feelings. my uncle is half black and half white so i am in no way racist. well the other day, i went to a huge city and i was in a clothes store with my mom, well i left her for awhile and i cut the corner and ran into a group of black guys and they were all talking before but when they saw me they got real quite and looked at me as if i wasnt welcome. it got really hard to be there at that moment. after i left, i thought that maybe they just got startled cause i cut the corner real fast, but then it wasnt like anytime it happened before in the same situation. i dont know if it was a predujuce(spelled it wrong) thing or not but i didnt like it. its just really wierd because my uncle being they ethincy he is, i have no racial descrimination against anyone, and to feel that someone does against me is kinda hazy to me, it seems pointless. i guess thats just life but when shit like that happens it makes me feel guilty for being white and i shouldnt. i cant help what happened a long time ago and if i could change it, i would. im just tired of hearing all the kids at my school say the n word and calling mexicans wetbacks. its getting to where i dont even want to go to school anymore. i think we need to grow up.
well, when I was your age, I was one of the few minorities at my high school which was almost all white. I really don't think you should complain too much if you are white. you should thank white Jesus that you are white.
Did you say hello to the group that went silent when you turned the corner? You have to understand their history there was a time when blacks could be hung or arrested for looking at whites wrong. Yes it is time we grew up and got over ourselves. Do you tell your friends you don't appreciate the use of those terms? Ignorant threatened people always resort to running the other guy down. As long as no one says it's not acceptable they will continue to do it. It makes them feel superior. Try telling them you don't and won't accept that stuff, and you'll probably find that your friends stop.
No I didnt say hello, as soon as I noticed it, it just turned into one those moments where you hesitate when something unexpected happens, if you know what I mean. Yes I understand about that time and I think its stubborn and pointless to do something like that. It actually makes me feel like I am responsible for my race but I dont think I should because wasnt there and wasnt able to stop it. Its just a wierd Well...I have told them and theyre quiet about it for about a week or two, then they start again. Its gotten to where I dont really associate with them anymore because its no good trying to keep them from it. I mean Ive tried to explain it to them but they think that since this is alabama, black people have no right to be here, but you know, it is the white peoples fault because they were to lazy to support and work for their own family and had to have someone else do it. I guess they get joy from it so I just stay away from them.
It's hard to not be racist... For me, against Native Americans - I've had several run-ins working on Native Reserves, and when I was 19 or 20 or so I got my ass jumped by a group of 4 for no reason. Makes it tough to feel pity for their plight.
sitka you could get jumped by a man of any colour sure there are bad natives just like whites blacks and so on, if you met some nice natives you'd probly change your mind no?
During colonization and the early development of the US it wasn't just laziness that created slavery. Slavery happened for the same reason illegal imigration has become such a large problem. At one time there just weren't enough hands to do the work. People had to be imported. But when we choose to import workers instead of doing the jobs ourselves, yes then it's our fault. It could have happened differently if those that were imported by force as in the case of slavery, and those that have been manipulated into coming here through illegal imigration because of corporate greed and political corruption were treated with respect and consideration and justly recompensed for the work the do. Eventually if you take advantage of others it will catch up with you. You can only kick a dog when it's down so many times, before either it dies, or it bites.
If the government in the US didn't profit by the corrupt government in Mexico and feed it, the people of Mexco would be a world power to deal with, and they wouldn't have to come to the US. NAFTA was supposed to create a business climate in Mexico that business would be streaming there. Ask Hillary and Bill what happened to that promise.
Why should we feel proud that we take advantage of others. This is real life not a reality tv show where you vote others off the island.
Illegals from Mexico will stop coming to the US, when they can make anything close to a living wage in their own country. Why can't they????
I'm friends with several. But the culture in general is a horrible one. In the pacific northwest, almost all cultural dignity is gone (for a variety of reasons), and you're left with alcoholism, inbreeding, rampant rape, unemployment, fetal alcohol syndrome (upwards of 20 percent in some places), etc. Society's response (through a variety of treaties, types of property laws, etc)has been to sheperd them into reserves, pay them enough to survive, and ignore them until we need something from their land. Out of sight, out of mind. Which is obviously the amoral thing. But bad experiences have made uncaring, and finding it fine leaving them there to rot. Which depresses me.
No its normal to feel confortable around your own race, however that dosent mean you have to be a racist. Racism is a feeling of hate toward someone for their ethincy, or religion and so forth and so on. So racism is not natural feeling uncomfortable is. get what Im sayin man?
