I recently acquired Zaireeka, tried it out, and was sorely disappointed. Granted, it is an ambitious album design, but the music itself is not worth the work of getting 4 cd-players together. It sounds like what your extremely talented musician friend would play, when making fun of The Flaming Lips.

Wayne has been pretty off-tune on all these TV performances I've seen.
I don't really mind it though, as long as he's still got the spirit in him.

I cannot stand their current work. I can listen and all, but it does nothing for me.

In a Priest Driven Ambulance is where it's at. If you haven't heard that album, you're missing out on Flaming Lips.

I went to a concert of theirs in Philly. It was amazing. He crowd surfed inside an inflatable ball. Apparently he does that at all their concerts. They also had costumed fans dancing on stage, funky cameras, and shot out about 50 huge balloons out to bounce around the crowd. It was pretty amazing.

I think its pretty amazing that they've been around as long as they have and are still as passionate as they are. It takes some serious self reliance and perseverance to do that. Drugs help too.

I think they're totally and utterly amazing and I've loved them since 'Transmissions'. I have a Flaming Lips T-shirt from 1995 and it's the most hideously ugly shirt in the world but I still wear it because they're so good.

Here's a list of my favorite albums:

1.The Soft Bulletin-- obviously, a masterpiece. It's sad, personal, sweet, amazing.

    2. Clouds Taste Metallic-- a close second. All-around fantastic songs, fantastic lyrics, incredible music and it holds together well as an album. But it's guitar-driven so it sounds too much like 1995. If they re-did those songs with the strings and bells and such they used for TSB, it would be another die-hard classic masterpiece of an album even though it sort of already is anyway.

    3. B-sides and Rarities 1999-2006-- okay, this album doesn't technically exist, except for on a CD I burned for my sister and on my MP3 player. But they have heaps of fantastic B-sides recorded after Zaireeka and they're all worth hearing. Especially on the EP they handed out with the 5.1 version of The Soft Bulletin. If they put them all on one CD like I did, it could make for an amazingly consistent and brilliant album.

    4. Transmissions From The Satellite Heart-- This is poppier and in some cases noisier than Clouds... but not as consistent, and a little less complex. It also contains one of the worst and most popular songs they ever did-- 'She Don't Use Jelly', which makes them seem less like acid-damaged children and more like retards on glue. Still, Moth In The Incubator, Chewin' The Apple of Yer Eye and Slow Nerve Action make up for it.

    5. Yoshimi Vs. The Pink Robots-- Incredible title track, and I love the atmospheric second act. The problem is it doesn't have a climactic ending and feels uneven. TSB had 'Feeling Yourself Disintegrate', CTM had 'Evil Will Prevail' or 'Bad Days', and TFTS had 'Slow Nerve Action'-- all of which are incredible songs which fit the overall theme of the album and conclude it in great form. This has a really weird downbeat gloomy ending with synths called 'All We Have is Now' and then some middle of the road instrumental. Still 'Do You Realize???' is pretty awesome, and 'Fight Test' is better than the Cat Stevens song.

    6. Zaireeka-- would have been better if they'd released it as a proper album, but thanks to the Internet you can actually get a mix of it with all four CDs playing at once. It sounds a bit noisy, but that's what they're into. Better are the proper versions of '35000 Ft. of Despair' and 'Riding to Work in The Year 2525' on the singles from TSB. It was fun to have this album in res at uni, but it's not something I put on very often because of the format. Still, I love the lyrics on this one a lot.

The rest of their albums aren't brilliant. They're not bad, but not brilliant. The reason for this is because they either didn't have Steven Drozd, or he wasn't on heroin.

"She Don't Use Jelly" is my favourite song by The Flaming Lips and I loved their version of David Bowie & Freddy Mercury's song "Under Pressure". The music video for "She Don't Use Jelly" is my favourite music video ever. I know it's a rip-off of The Butthole Surfers, but it's just great. I have been obsessed with Wayne Coyne for the longest time. One of the sexiest men ever invented: along with Boy George, Johnny Depp and Jim Morrison.

Dude Wayne Coyne is a pretty focking good looking guy. I've always thought that.

The Lips are Heaven on Earth. And their new stuff is just as fantastic as their old. (Although I just got "Oh My Gawd!!!..." on Vinyl and it's blowing me away)

    I don't think that's arguable.

Dude Can someone else please tell me that the Flaming Lips are a continuous source of inspiration. Honestly, I put on any of their albums but particularly their newest 3 while I am out on a longg freaking walk and I can truly say I reach a state of spirituality that I really feel unites me with the Earth and The Stars and Universe...and People but most importantly I feel Loveeeeeee Inside me!

Okay I'm no music snob..But I do know my music pretty fucking well, I listened to "Yoshimi" at a friends and thought they were a bit of a novelty act (She don't use Jelly doesn't help) and too electronic and made noises just for the hell of it cause they were druggies. (By the way I'm Straight so I don't do the drugs so I was skeptical to say the least.) BLAH BLAH BLAH you know the drill...Now I'm IN LOVE.

If Someone could please agree with the first paragraph that would really make me feel good. If nobody does that's okay too! Hahaha

Yoshimi Battles Pink Robots was the epic sound track to my short lived obsession with sudoku. Now it seems the two are inexplicably linked through synesthesia that must be a result of the dread drug LSD. I can't listen to that album without thinking in number sequences of 9 or do Sudoku without humming the tune.

    They're a brilliant banddddddddddd.
