I believe. I'm not sure what it is. I'm not sure how or why. I just believe in a higher power. Nothing at all that we can even come CLOSE to comprehend. Reasons I believe: Personal religious experiences, Paramahansa Yogananda's "Autobiography of a Yogi" and other great books. Also, for you science heads, please check out Michael Talbot's book "The Holographic Universe"- REALLY cool concept which has been confirmed by multiple experiments and leading scientists. There is so much information which leads humans away from god, and religion. But think about it guys, have we become any happier as a society AWAY from god? Yes, it's true that some religions do preach hate, but this is simply due to HUMAN ERROR. There is a love so powerful above us, all you need to experience him/her/it is to open your heart and mind. Ignore all else and honestly and lovingly consider it.

I feel that the poll list was incomplete at best. you should have added "Pagan, any denomination"

I do not believe in many gods, just a few. and some that started out fictional!

This does not make sense, you avoid the question. Not sure what you believe, how or why, which means you believe nothing. Logically this is the result of what you say. You leave it opened ended because naturally humans would like a higher power to have some greater meaning, but ultimately saying there is something but you do not know what really means you believe nothing.

I agree. There are contradictions all throughout that post. Is it science or is it a higher power???

I think pagan would fall under "I believe in many gods." Cause they do don't they? I dated a pagan guy once and he was a wack job. I think most of them are actually. I know that's offensive to you but, it's my belief.

I don't believe in religion at all. ANY KIND. And I don't believe in ANY god.

Because obviously the concept of a god is asinine.

I've always had my own thought that people that hated the concept of god and think it's ridiculous to believe are actually just afraid of the fact that there might be something out there that in therory could completely in control over everything.

atheist all the way baby!! Personally, I think it's irresponsible to believe in a god. Look how much trouble religion has caused in the past! People don't take responsibility for their own actions, they just pass it off as part of gods plan.

I'm religiously intollerant...and in some bizare way...proud of it! I'm true to myself instead of some little floaty dude up in the sky.

Its just me and you. But I'm messianic...I'm a jew, but I believe in Jesus.
My family's really religious, but I'm not at all. I light the candles, blah blah blah, but that's about it.

I don't like religion. I'd rather go with my heart and do what feels right, and trust that God's there (some kind of higher being who's put us here for a higher purpose or whatever), and that he would let me know if I was headed down a bad path. I think that people get so wrapped up in religion and church that they miss the whole point, which (I think) is to help people and love people, not condemn.

*ahem* WE DID NOT EVOLVE FROM APES/MONKEYS!! *ahem* We, apes, and monkeys evolved from a common ancestor.

Anyway I don't really care whether there is a God or not. If it was important, he would have said something to me. So i guess that makes me agnostic.

However, I absolutely don't believe in the combination of a Good God and Hell. Since God knows everything, he would know, before he created someone that was going to hell, that he was making a living being simply to torture it for eternity. Quite the paradox.

nah im not afraid to believe that at all. I was grown up in the church, was baptized, was confirmed, my mom still works at the church. I think its insane that people base beliefs on a book which is about 1/10 of all the material that was suppost to be in it. There are so many missing peices and things that dont add up. I didnt say I hated the concept of god did I? I said that people are brainwashed into believing things. And the fact you said im afraid of the fact there might be something out there that could completely control everything, well I do believe in intelligent extraterristal life so I guess Im not too afraid to come up with my own ideas huh? Just because I dont believe in god and think its dumb to follow the ideas dosent mean I havent done my homework.

The one, the only vessel to the path of true slack....
...It's J.R. "Bob" Dobbs, living avatar of slack and saint of sales.

"Bob" doesn't give you anything you don't already have. "Bob" doesn't take you anyplace you aren't already at. "Bob" doesn't show you anything that isn't already right in front of you.

However, "Bob" does go quite well with psychedelics.

i think churches steal peoples money, brainwash your girls in beliving they are lower then men and that men are superior to women, and teach them to conform to society. I grew up babtist and was babtised and went to church every sunday. But it never felt right. still figuring it out....

i am apathiest, but im 99.99% sure there is not a god and if there is a god im 100% sure it is not any of the major religions god. i was raised a catholic but ever since i was little i had trouble beleiving all the stuff about "god never began and will never end" and simply dismissing it away by saying "its god and he can do shit like that" does not cut it. how is it possible he never was and will always be? thats not beliefs thats blind stupidity. i beleive jesus existed just like muhammad and Siddhartha Gautama existed but it does not make them god. extremely influential, deeply intelligent teachers yes, but messengers of god i think not. i think the closest thing there is to a real god is mother nature, earth herself.

The problem with religion, in my opinion, is that when a person is on an honest search for God, they can be swayed by any one religion into believing that there is only that one path and this causes seperation and negative diversity. When you are born into a religious family that is closed minded to adversity and acceptance, obviously this is going to have negative reprucussions, like atheism that is harbouring anger and disappointment. It is one thing to be atheist because you have utilyzed your intelligence and reflective consciousness to find a cause for existance and come up empty handed, it is another to be atheist simply because the religion your mom and dad or however influenced your thoughts as a child and you turn away from God out of a dislike for organized religion. I dont want to discuss atheism any further though because knowing God, blindly believing in a limited concept of God, and totally dismissing God as a complete fairy tale are three totally different mind set's and they all vary with a persons life experience. I was a complete atheist for most of my life, up until about 20 years old, when I started having experiences that have now rednered me a total devotee of God with an unshakable position. I dont 'believe' in God, I know God and tap into God's love every morning and evening with my meditation. But obviously if you never try to transcend the limitation's of your human consciousness, you will never experience God as a reality, and God will remain as either an illusive mystery or a false mental creation by the mind's of ancient men in order to cope with life's various profound wonders and pains. There are too many reason's to find God and too many reason's to deny God, but all of them remain subjective human perception, which is limited in it's comprehension of the material universe alone, until one objectivley breaks through the mental barrier and connects with the consciousness, or the intelligence, that run's through every atom of Nature. As some of you are saying here, Mother Nature and what She is supposed to represent, is the only manifestation of God that one can choose to even consider as God. Mother Nature is like the string on a necklace, permeating every bead, hidden behind the gross matter. But even Mother Nature and Her manifested energy is extremely subtle and many people go around completley oblivious to the massive intelligence constructing their own surroundings.
But God is beyond even that. St. Stephen, what you say above about how "God never began and will never end" is a hard concept to comprehend becauses it's very understanding or misunderstanding relies entirely upon the ability of the human mind to grasp time as a tangible reality, when in fact, time is an illusion that we created to make sense of our existance and put an order to what we can, at first, only conceive to be chaos. But it is not chaos, in fact the universe is strung together in such exact, perfect harmony that the mind becomes overwhelmed, consumed with awe at the very 'miraculous' nature of the essence of our macrocosm and microcosm. The universe as an enviorment is a mirror reflection of the microcosm, and the universe as the mind is a mirror reflection of the macrocosm. It is not God who is with time, having a beginning and an end, it is our universe, which is likely just one among very many, that appears to be of a creative and destructive nature. Just because it is expanding now, does not mean that it has the potential ability to continue expanding forever, and in my honest opinion, it will go back in on itself and die back into the essence from which it was born, just like everything contained within the universe does.
Im not trying to put down atheist, agnostic, or organized religious people, but I only want to share with people that God, in my opinion, is not something that we can grasp onto with any of the sense oriented means, nor with emotion, thought, contemplation, comprehension, imagination, etc. God is purely transcenedental to our limited consciousness abilities, and the realization through union of the minor Soul we each, in pure essence, are, with the major Soul, or God, can best be attained through love, humble acceptance of what we are and what life gives us or takes from us, and to get to the heart of the matter, meditation. The word Yoga means Soul-Union, and it is through the negation of the sense attachments, clearing the mind and opening the heart, that God manifest's as a reality to us. But it takes much will power, determination, and inner strength to battle the desires and urges of the ego-body. Just remember, please, this is only my opinion and I wish to share it, I do not in any way give this post with the intention of insulting or ridiculing any one of you because no matter who you are, to me you are all beautiful people and though some of you may not believe in God, I do and I see Him and His love in everyone of you equally. We are a human family if we are not a God family, and that in itself is enough to prove that we are all amazing in our own way's and we should all look out for and care for one another as One complete network of positivity.

I get lost about a third of the way through that Relayer. Huge blocks of text need to be broken up... I'm sure it was well thought out though.
