    Hey all,

My mother lived in the Haight from '67-'71, after which she split from my dad. I've done searches for my father before, but the details I have are really sketchy. Mom doesn't remember much, and there's a lot that she's blocked out over the years.

I'm trying to find anyone from that same era/time period. Here's what I know:

    1. My dad's name was Robert Delaney, but he was mostly known as "Boston Bob" by his friends.

    2. He worked at 3rd Eye Books at 1600 Haight St in '69-'70. In mid-1970 he was busted for selling mushrooms, and served about 8 months.

    3. He was covered in tattoos, and had a big tattoo of an eagle on his back.

    4. Mom's name was Nancy, and she was known for doing puppetry and ventriloquism.

    5. One of their closest friends went by the name "Friar Tuck"

I have reason to believe that my father passed away in Portland in the mid-90's, but I don't know for certain. If any of these details sound familiar, shoot me a message. Thanks!

i cant help you on your search for your dad, but i am going to say keep trying... dont give up. ever...
my parents split when i was 4 n my mum refused to let him see us. he passed away in 2002 and everything i know about my dad has been in the last year, including the discovery that i had a sister...
family is a very beautiful thing most of the time, and even after they're gone you cant give up..
you say you arent sure whether he passed away so i say dont ever give up until you know for sure. if he is alive, you could be throwing away precious memories...
    good luck to you

Thanks for the kind words. Yeah, finding out the truth from my mother took more than 16 years. Originally, I thought he bailed, but in my teens, I found out that my mother bailed when he wanted to live an alternate lifestyle (Him, my mother, and another woman named Sandy.) Mom couldn't handle that, and took off with friends to a commune near Grass Valley, CA. From there, she travelled up to Oregon, met my stepdad, and settled back down here in the Sacramento area.

What I most think of is that he was older than my mother, and supposedly had 5 children from a previous marriage back in Boston. I'd love to get in touch with them, if nothing else. (I'm an only child.)

Raschied Delaney was my original birth name, but my mother changed it when I was 3, so there wouldn't have been any easy way of hunting me down if he did decide to look for me.

I did hire a service to look for him, after I found an ANCIENT cancelled check with (what I thought) was his social security number on it. The number didn't pan out, but the search covered everyone born in the Boston area that died on the West coast, and one Robert Delaney popped up in the Death records in Portland in '95. I still don't know if that was him or not. Other than some arrest records, I don't have any ID for him.

i pray that your dad did have other children so that you have siblings. i wish things were a little easier for you. my situation was very lucky. my dad went thru a few marriages, with a kid in each. like i said before, i only found out i had a half sister a year ago, but in my situation it was easy to find my dad because he was a country musician so he was easy enough to find on the net. my sister managed to contact my dad's wife (Dil) after my mum, and my older half brother gave me Dil's email address to, so she told my sister about me. it was the greatest because her and i are like twins, even if there is a ten year difference.

keep looking darl and keep asking questions from anyone you know of that had contact with him. best of luck
