Today I went to London and went on the London eye. The queue was long so I was singing along to all my levellers songs and the only english person in the line goes to me 'shut up you bloody crusty, get a job'. Blimmin 'eck, yes I was dressed scruffy with mud all up my boots and stuff, but I'm not quite living on the street yet! I wasn't offended by it, not at all, but it probably teaches me to sing in public!

Ah, ignore them. They're just upset because they have to live in London.. bloody shithole.
I've had "get a job" shouted at me before.. I always respond "I have one you numb fuck". Tends to shut them up.

Nothing wrong with singing along to the Levellers in public. I'd be offended if someone said that to me though - more because they felt the need to say it in such a rude way than what they said. Honestly, some people have no manners in this day and age. And they call us the scum

Being half-Pakistani and a hippy is an advantage for me. No one shouts 'get a job' at you, they're more concerned you're going to nick theirs....

It's even better if you elaborate by telling them the job in question is a blow job from their mum. :D

So crusty means homeless now? [IMG] I take exception to that in honesty (though I do concede they often have a similar dress sense hehe). Some homeless people may be crusties but the term doesn't mean that at all. There's nothing wrong with being homeless, being a crusty or being both but don't generalise just like the people who shouted at you. And come on, you were singing the Levellers ferchrissake, as bands go it don't get much more crusty!

I got called a 'f*ckin student' in the street a while ago. I was actually quite flattered as I never went to university.

"Get a job" must be a popular insult!
I've had it shouted at me before, I just replied "Yeah, that's what I'll do..."

Honestly some folk just love dragging folk down.

Crusties are from what I can tell, a branch of hippies merging a little bit with the punks, some of whom choose to live on the road. The way this bloke said implied I was homeless, mind. Stupid bloody people.
I was only going on the London Eye cos it was my sister's Birthday treat!

The Levellers have always rejected their crusty label. I'd say it's unfairly applied to them....

I'm not a massive Levellers fan myself but I do associate them with that scene. Battle of the Beanfield, the New Age travelling movement, the Criminal Justice Bill, anti capitalism and anarcho-primitivism- all things associated with the Levellers and with the crusty movement. They may have rejected the label but then most hippies I know really dislike being called hippies [IMG]

I think they're probably closer to punk than any of that, at least in their world-view. As for their songs, they moved a lot more towards the pop than the crust. At gigs, the main component won't be old punks or hippies and crusties, but quite normal, if there is such a thing, teenagers....
