for me, my "favorite" is whatever i listen to the most, and it changes very frequently, but for the past several years a few have seriously dominated my listening habits, though they are all quite different from one another: placebo, rasputina, the flaming lips, primus, and a number of other bands and musicians have been my most frequent "favorites," though placebo, rasputina, and the flaming lips have definitely been the top 3 for the past couple years. right now i've been listening to rasputina's latest album "Oh, Perilous World" pretty much over and over again for the past three days or so. prior to that it was madvillain. amongst all this has been primus, that 1 guy, and the moldy peaches. prior to all this i was listening to a LOT of reggae and a lot of the pharcyde and talib kweli. so what is your current favorite? or do you have a long standing, number one, all time favorite? for me there are too many genres i like too much to decide on one favorite, but there are a few that stand far above all others....at least in terms of what i like, not always in terms of what's technically the best from a sophisticated musical standpoint. i don't know too much about all that, i just know what i like, and like most people i think i have pretty decent taste. i dont claim my favorite bands are always the best, they're just what i like the best so how about you? what have you been listening to more than anything else lately? or do you just listen to the radio?
Dragonforce If I knew any of the names of the DJ's that make my favorite cheesy techno(or the mix names, lol), I would probably name one of them though.
I like all of the band you've named Nesta. Not a lot of people listen to The Moldy Peaches, and they are truly missing out. They're an extremely entertaining band. I've been listening to The Talking Heads and Godspeed You! Black Emperor all day today. So those are my favourites for the day.
i think the moldy peaches are very entertaining and interesting, but at the same time i think they're utterly incapable of singing and maintaining a proper harmony. i suppose i can't really say why i like their music except that their imperfections simply testify to their humanity and simplicity. i can understand why many people don't like them....after all, they are not even close to smooth, polished, and highly accessible. i dont think its elitist at all - i simply think that i enjoy how rough, raw, and flat out bad they sound! i guess it seems to be a paradox that i find them simultaneously wonderful and horrible, but in reality i think both qualities come from the same source... i enjoy them quite a lot, even if they're wierd and not necessarily what many people want to listen to.
and i'm curious if you are familiar with that 1 guy and his magic pipe, rubin. (or should i call you pavel? according to other people's posts that seems to be your actual name, though i dont specifically remember being told this is the case by you) so have you heard him? far from my favorite, but i think he's interesting and somewhat entertaining, particularly when i'm really high. i saw him live once and bought a cd, when i was in seattle several years ago and he was opening for ani difranco. i like ani ok, but she's better when she has her band, and the show i saw was just her solo performance. it was a little bit of a dissappointment, though i understand every musician has the occasional off day. i've seen the allman brothers before and been blown away, and then another time i saw them they were lame as all get out. anyway, at that particular concert that 1 guy was the highlight as far as i'm concerned. are you familiar with his stuff? its pretty odd. in fact, i really have no way of describing it at all, though i will say the vocals aren't particularly musical.
Grateful Dead is my all time favorite, but with other bands i end up listening to them a lot for a little bit then move onto another band. Right now ive been listening to a lot of yonder mountain string band. Im sure it'll change pretty soon once i get my ratdog and phil shows downloaded.
Wow. You described The Moldy Peaches perfectly. ...I've actually looked into That 1 Guy after hearing about him on this forum. Indeed, very entertaining. I'm a big fan of certain odd music... so he works in very well.
ive been listening to a lot of radiohead lately. still listening to the band a ton, grateful dead of course. im listening to a lot of sage francis too. i just got a country joe and the fish cd and a 13th floor elevator cd and there both great. i have this tendency to only listen to a certain band for a long period of time and eventually over listen them. happened with led zeppelin, floyd, hendrix and phil ochs. i get to a point where a have almost every cd buy them and than just cant stand to listen to them anymore. so im tryin not to do that anymore, with radiohead especially.
its obvious from my name what i like lol. but man im diggin on moe. lately too. and that song "divisions" by umphey's mcgee you guys should check out that song.
the mars volta, radiohead, godspeed you black emperor, of the wolves, solar bear, the fall of troy, fear before the march of flames, and circa survive are who i'm listening to a lot of these days
Ive been in love with Tool for the longest time, them and Pink Floyd are my all time favorites, But in the last months ive been jamming The mamas and the papas, Jack Johnson, and CCR.
pink floyd, and i'm surprised no one mentioned the beatles? i recently got into sgt peppers, its so amazing
Most of us have probably just had a tad too much of The Beatles. I've been listening to them ridiculously talented and catchy fuckers ever since I was born.
