well, i do hate to be someone who bellyaches about wanting a baby only to find out that she is already pregnant, but i think i might've just turned into that person.

and now it's time for freak out! i am all confused, i wanted a baby but now that i think i'm pregnant, i am not sure how to do this. financially and all. not good timing. i guess i neglected to consider a couple (important) things when wishing i had a baby in my arms.

don't get me wrong, i'm happy...i'm just scared. i am not positive, but i took 3 pregnancy tests from a cheap 3 pack and all had a plus sign. i imagine that cutting a couple dollars wouldn't give me 3 false positives.

so i'll be going to the gyno, i guess, to be sure. what do you guys do when you first find you are pregnant? start on vitamins right away? i know to eat well and not drink, etc. but are there any other major lifestyle choices that wouldn't be so obvious to me? i imagine i'm about 2 weeks along or something.

any advice would be really helpful, i'm in the dark about a lot of things.

    CONGRATS!!!

Take a deep breath. It's totally OK to freak out a bit. Having a baby is a big deal. But it's OK. You'll get through it.

When I found out I was preggers I quit smoking, changed my diet, and started taking over the counter prenatals (until I found a better vitamine from GNC). Everything else I did was the same as usual. Except I was more cautious about stuff. Like changing a litter box. I would cover my mouth and nose with a hankerchief. I also made sure to wash my hands really well before eating. But I tried not to get obsessive. lol

    1. drink lots of water
    2. find a good midwife
    3. take a folic acid supplement (800mg a day) along with a regular women's multivitamin. some women get sick from the prenatal vitamins.
    4. eat 6 small meals a day heavy on red, yellow, and orange fruits and veggies.
    5. avoid negative people (I didn't realise how important this is until recently!)
    6. Don't Panic. You'll make it, no matter the money situation. These things have a way of working themselves out.

And babies can be cheaper than you'd think. Buy a sling instead of a stroller. Buy cloth diapers instead of disposables. Don't buy a crib (otherwise known as a crap-catcher). Breastfeed (why pay out the nose for something lesser?).

    Congrats!

It's ok to freak out - when I found out a couple of weeks ago that I'm pregnant I nearly cried, even though I was real happy.
I suddenly realised that I knew absolutely nothing about pregnancy and babies. However, the nurse at the youth center was awesome and gave me some basic information, then I went to the library and got out heaps of books.
I found that reading about made me feel a lot more calm.
And congrats huney! Your healthcare professional will probably tell you what you need to know.

Congrats...and all the luck.:) I have 3 childeren, I went through the same fears as you. Take a deep breath and relax. Your never finacially ready for childeren, but you learn to comprimise. And youll get so much stuff at your baby shower, you prob wont have to buy anything for a month or so...:)

    Congrats!!!!!
Hippy freak was really right, if your an AP parent, babies are hardly expensive at all. The only thing I have to buy for my little guy is diapers because we're not allowed to wash ours in the apartment machines and there's no diaper service around my area (arg).
When it came to clothes, I bought pretty much everything second hand...why pay huge amounts for something thats going to be outgrown right away. My dd is 2, and I sew most of her clothes. I also have a few friends with young kids, too, and we kind of "snow ball" our clothes, passing them on to whoever we know is having a baby next. You shoudld see the pile I have here....I'm not even using most of it! I have so many clothes I'm going insane, lol!
    Breastfeed as long as possible.
Yes, cribs are a waste. My FIL bought us one for DD, and we only used it when hubby and I wanted some "alone time." This time it has sat in storage...completely usless.
We do have a stroller, but I bought a stroller/carseat combo used a couple weeks ago. Sometimes being in the car calms DS right down, and if we're going somewhere, I can just put him in the stroller. But I always have a sling or my mei tai with me.
I actually found what to expect when you're expecting to be an awful book (no offense gyspymama). I bought it and threw it at the wall a couple times before I just threw it away. It just downright frustrated me.
But yeah, if I think of anything else, I let ya know

I have to disagree, this book should be changed to "what to expect -when you're expecting a cookie cutter, status quo birth"

I do however recommend a few books!

The Thinking Womans Guide To a Better Birth
    Ina May's Guide To Childbirth
    Gentle Birth Choices

And, I can not recommend midwives enough!!!
