I noticed a few years ago that Digiorno stopped making their deep dish pizza, which sucks because it was fucking great. I've been trying to find another store bought or delivery deep dish. Some of the common delivery places claim to have deep dish but what they serve has no right to be called such. What I'm talking about is like...at least 2 inches deep and filled up, so it actually resembles a pie. Anyone know of a non local company that still makes them? I wanna try one again before I try making my own.
Nope sadly I don't. Pizza hut's is one of those pseudodeepdish pizzas. Luckily I live in Northern Illinois and have local deep dish.
time to head to the kitchen homemade pizza is by far the way to go. just get a good pan for it, it should have holes in it so that the crust is exposed to the heat more directly and lets out some of the moisture, so it will be more sturdy and slightly crispy. it may take a try or two to get it right, but homemade pizza is the shit, and you can make it however you want. i highly recommend using roma tomatoes, red onions, good olives, feta cheese, fresh spinach leaves and fresh basil leaves as filling along with some provolone. good shit right there
^^^ You just described the perfect pizza!!! and homemade?! The only homemade pizza I make is pita bread pizzas hahaha I'm such a lazy cook.
yeah, i never make it myself anymore, but when i worked at a pizza shop i used to make up all kinds of crazy concoctions and such, and would sometimes bring in toppings we didnt use for customers, and i have enjoyed similar toppings from other local places. its pretty simple to make a pizza so long as you know what you're doing and have good quality fresh dough. i didnt work at the best pizza shop, but we did at least have good, fresh dough, our hand-tossed pizzas were legitimately hand tossed (unlike pizzahut!) and i got tons of free pizza. my mother and father both make tasty homemade pizzas, but always use a glass baking dish and the crust comes out soft and moist, and it must be eaten with a fork by necessity. i've considered getting them some good pans for baking a pizza, but then i think i dont have the money to spend on that, and if i DID i would definitely get myself said pans before i bought them to give away. i think for deep dish it may be hard to find an appropriate pan. this can easily be overcome buy purchasing a regular single-use thin pie tin (stuff is practically like foil its so thin) and just punching holes all over the surface to allow the crust to breathe. bigger holes are better, and when punching the holes make sure you go from the inside out, so the sharp pokeys are on the outside of the pan and not the inside. handle with care so as not to cut yourself, though. use oven mits even when the pan isn't hot. flat pans for regular pizzas are easier to come by, at least around here. i'm not a huge fan of deep dish pizza, but every once in a while it REALLY hits the spot......all that cheese!
oh, and another personal favorite combination for a tasty pizza (if you folks eat meat) is chicken breast, onions, and jalapenos. its a great combination, but preferably for thin crust or hand tossed pizzas....i doubt it would be as good for deep dish. if you're making it homemade, make sure to cook the chicken most of the way through or completely prior to cooking the pizza.
i hate talking on the phone, and while i love pizza when i'm stoned, i hate calling pizza places, and hate waiting on it to not only be made, but on having someone bring it to me. plus its ungodly overpriced to have someone make it for you. pizzas cost the shop virtually nothing, plus you're paying for labor, delivery, and tip. if you got fancy ingredients it would cost almost as much to make a homemade pizza, but it would be better and you can make it however the fuck you want. i dont know....i just think cooking is fun, and while delivery is convenient its not always the best choice!
I'm usually disappointed by delivery. I am yet to find a pizza I really like in Ottawa, but I'm kinda scared of making my own.
Hey, thanks for the advice. I hadn't read about the perferation in the little I have scanned so far online. While I don't mind making a call for food, I find cooking to be an adventure in itself, and as nesta said, this way, I get to make it however I please. I gave up on finding a place near me or a company that makes frozen ones to try theirs, which is just as well, as it would be more money down the drain. Looks like this weekend will be for experimentation.
yall talkin pizza doe rockin a deep dish Im talkin rims my nigga and oversees trips red lights and whores on strips it aint a board game but ill sink you ships
You don't have a chicago unos or whatever it's called. They are famous for their deep dish pizzas, and you can find them in the grocery store sometimes too. But they mostly have restaurants. It's a big chain sort of like a chilis or a fridays or something. I've only eaten their once or twice, but their pizza is good.
Wow, amazingly there IS one near me. Thanks, I had heard a little of uno's but had never been there and it wasn't a place that would cross my mind when I tried to think of places. Their prices are a lil high, tho that's to be expected. I'm still going to make my own, but perhaps after my next paycheck, I'll check out uno's.
