I've heard it's the end of the Mayan calendar (who were responsible for our winter.summer solstices, amongst other things).. and i've heard that the magnetic poles will have totally switched- they are apparently switching now, that the earth will be on the cusp of the milkway... oh, and just to add more- apparently we'll be facing a black hole? Do you think that's all bull... or do you find yourself fearing the date?
i thought it was dec 12? anyway, i don't think anything is going to happen. though i can't help but hear the little voice in the back of my mind that says "maybe."
It was an arbitrary date which the Mayans felt like ending their calender cycles on. Writing everything out on papyrus was a lotta work. If the Maya couild predict disasters, they'd might have averted whatever destroyed their empire in the 9th century. And killed more Spanish.
nuclear war isn't too far out of the range of possibility, though. so the world could conceivably end by then.
i vote for http://www.thunderbolts.info/ We are going to see something electrical, and as a result of the variance in gravity/direction of spin/who the hell knows some nasty stuff will happen. Something significantly astrological will happen, thats about all I can say for sure We cannot give the mayan's clairvoyance in their calendar... its not to predict world events, its to predict astrological alignment and relativity... alignments that result in (we'll find out).
*cough*egyptians used papyrus which is made from a plant that only really grows in egypt and the mediterranean, it does not exist in south america. iirc, the only writing we have preserved from the mayans was the stuff they carved into stone, but i may be wrong on that (only having stuff on stone from em)...*cough* sure shit will happen. because people think that shit will happen, therell be a few riots and a few fucking morons who may contemplate murder suicide sprees. me, i may book teh day off work and sit at home with some wine and video games. its a ways away though
Global warming is only part of the big picture... its a result of something... and I do not believe we have anything to do with it, at least not in regards to emissions. The ice caps are melting from below... the earth itself is warming up... The poles are shifting, the gravitational pull of the earth is changing... this is not by chance, and such relatively drastic changes are likely a pre-requisite to whatever will happen in 2012... and have likely happened before in a relatively similar way.
At what point do you allow yourself to remember the earth has had more than a few mass extinctions, yea, the same earth we are on now Plausible, sure... To think even tomorrow the world will be as it is today is naive. Its not a question of if, its when... we perhaps have a guide to when, perhaps not... but to be complacent in this regard is to accept whatever will happen - lessening your chance of survival in the event something does happen.
Amate specifically was the paper used. Don't fact check me though. I don't even know what I'm talking about. I'm just here to hit on hippie chicks. How ya been by the way Kle?
The only thing that is going to happen on December 21, 2012 is that the world will not end and we will have to deal with our problems. Darn! It would be easier if the world ended!
I think if anything, its going to be some kind of shift or evolution in human consciousness. Its not exactly arbitrary from what Ive read, lode. It goes something like this. But dont quote me on anything since its been awhile. If drawn out a certain way, the calender looks kind of like a stepped pyramid, and down at the bottom begins at the cellular level where it took a very long amount of time to progress to the next level. At each level, the amount of time it takes to move to the level above it is less. The levels have corresponded with evolution and events that happened across the globe. So thats a little weird. Right now I think we are in the galactic cycle, which is near the top. In 2012, we will be in the universal cycle, and it takes only 20 days for the same amount of change to take place that is now over 360 days. So its like everything happens exponentially. I think its pretty accurate that progression and growth of our species is a lot more rapid that it was even 50 years ago, and were coming up on the pinnacle of their calendar. So who knows, I dont really think its going to be the end, and even the mayans knew about the cyclical nature of everything. But nobody knows. I do think theres going to be some kind of event that works like a catalyst. Or maybe 2012 itself will be enough of a catalyst itself to get people more conscious. The poles are supposed to change, so maybe there will be a shift in male/female energy, maybe nationalism will go away. I think its about shifting the way we live to be more harmonious with nature and its cycles, sustainability of life. I dont know that much about it really, just have friends that are into it and have read about it in the past. My friends are going to be meditating at the time. I dont know what I'll be doing. If you're interested though, you should check out this guy named Daniel Pinchbeck. He wrote a book called 2012: The Return of Quetzalcoatl, and has a lot of interesting ideas.
I'm thought the Mayans didn't worship Quetzalcoatl. Interestingly, the story I was, and most people here were told about Montezuma thinking Cortez was Quetzalcoatl was created entirely by the Spanish as a means of portraying the natives as naive. Most likely a lie.
I can tell you one thing that will surely happen on that day: I'll take a shit. It's guaranteed. (As long as I still have an anus).
Im not sure, like I said definitely not an authority on this topic. I just have some friends who like to trip out and talk about it haha..
