ok so i really like anime, but i really hate other ppl that do, well a certain group of them anyways. i like anime because it can tell storylines that live action cannot portray, for instance ill use the example of my introduction to anime, Dragonball Z, while i agree that it really isnt all that awsome when compared to other animes, it still has some great action and cool explosions. if they make a live action movie they will either have to cgi most of it till it just isnt worth watching, or they will have to scrap it and pull a beowulf.

as for my hatred of certain groups of fans, im talking of course about the "cosplayers" the ones who dress like caracters, and i dont mean at conventions or halloween, i mean at the mall, or bus station (like wearing a naruto headband, or a captains jacket from bleach (just saw that the other day at the providence place mall)), just "out and about". the other roup that like to call ppl by their name and add japanese titles to them (for example "sammy-chan" or "jason-san") when they dont even know japanese. this drives me crazy cuz they make a bad name for ppl like me who just enjoy the art and story, it makes ppl like me kinda embarassed to admit that i watch it.

and ive seen some awsome animes, such as "Elfen Lied" that is a crazy story that touched on so many social issues while having a deep and enthralling story, plus if you like gore, elfen lied is for you, just watch the first seven minutes of the first episode and it may lead you to watch more

I too, am a lover of anime/manga. I've heard many good things about elfen lied, but have yet to watch/read. I mostly watch shounen(especially fighting) and any other good fighting I can find. I've recently opened up to more as I've gotten near the end of Death Note.

Though I have never cosplayed and I don't much get into too much pseudo-japanese wordplay, I don't see anything wrong with it. Many people find a social bonding in this just as many here find a social bonding in pot. Someone who makes their own own shuriken and learns hand signs finds as much pleasure in it as someone who builds their own gravity bong. I'm guessing you don't watch much "harem" or "cute" anime, as it is with these types where you really enjoy cultural differences and feel like partaking, even if only in play.

Either way, good to here of another anime lover in the pot forums. what have you been into? Myself - one piece(my favorite in anime), bleach, naruto, of course. Grappler baki, Gatch Bell(wish they would sub faster =P), berserk, MAR, Flame of Recca, love hina, bottle fairy, hsd kenichi, death note, dragonball.

btw, if I had some more friends who would do it with me, I would definitely cosplay.

im not 100% against cosplaying its when i see one kid at the mall eating in the food court it just annoys me, there is a time and place for those things, and that is not it.

and i really need an example of a harem anime, do you mean like fruits basket?

as for my current favorites, i love death note (although it was sad when L got killed, he was so much cooler than Near) bleach, naruto (only in japanese, if i hear "believe it" one more time im blowing my head off) especially shippuden, FMA(but the ending was really a dissapointment) full metal panic(mostly fumofuu, the humour is too much! i lol'd at sasuke more than i can count) X(the manga is better but i really like the eye candy in the movie and series) angel sanctuary, zombie loan, kenshin, trigun(duh), and i started to watch descendants of darkness, but the doctor was waaaay too gay to take seriously, so im about to start watching the movie Blood: the last vampire

Though i waas sad at L's death, I was more of a Near fan myself, hehe. I'm saving the last 3 episodes of death note for the next time my guy comes through, as I just feel like the ending is going to be phenomenal. So, hopefully, this weekend.
With you mentioning "believe it", I've got to go on my english dubs rant. American translation companies have RUINED so many animes. I've never seen one where the voices and plot were as butchered as in One Piece. It's almost as if they were trying to ruin the show. And they horribly filtered and butchered Gatch Bell(Zatch bell in english), which, IMO, is the best anime to watch while high; definitely the funniest I have ever seen(the plot is average or below, the action and strategy are pretty bad, but the comedy and filler are hilarious).

hmm... my rant veered off... oh well.

growing up, my sister loved anime and i just fucking hated it when she'd put her dvds on worse than anything.

within the past year i've grown to appreciate some of it, primarily for the bizarre storylines.

the vast bulk of animes, even the ones i really like, bother me in terms of artwork. its not that i think its all terrible, i mean its supposed to just be a cartoon, anyway....its more that i realize there are people who think of it as if it were high art or something.

elfen lied is DEFINITELY one of my favorites, and the only anime of which i own the whole series.

my introduction to anime that i find enjoyable is gantz, which is a very bizarre and ultraviolent series....i'd recommend it if you haven't seen it. if you like violent action/suspense series like elfen lied, you may well like gantz as well.

i enjoy samurai champloo. i've only seen a couple episodes of deathnote but it kicks ass. i watched mushi-shi for the first time last night, and its pretty fucking sweet, too....i'll need to see more of both of these.

i got vampire hunter d: bloodlust not too long ago and i like it very much, though the resolution to the entire story is....odd. not bad...not bad at all....but very strange. the kind of thing that almost hurst my head when i try to figure out how the writers could come up with such a strange ending.

while gilgamesh is not the most gruesome i've seen by any stretch, its probably still one of the darkest in more ways than one, as well as one of the more thought provoking and well animated. i think the storyline is fantastic, as is the character development, and i think that the story itself is one of the best i've seen.

i also have seen a decent amount of the original hellsing, and think its pretty good. i've seen hellsing ultimate, and while there are a few parts that are a bit much for me (i think the word is chibi? i looked it up, and wikipedia suggests "super deformed" might be a more appropriate term....anyway, moments in the series where everything is extremely simplified and highly exaggerated, with little bits of japanese text off to the side of the picture here and there....minimal, bright colors, little shading....just for very, very brief moments throughout....other than that i think its better than regular old hellsing in every way)

if you're interested in very wierd anime-like movies that are not animated, i might suggest the city of lost children. its a french movie, actually, and one of the directors was the guy that did amelie. but its a bizarre movie set in a post-apocalyptic world with all sorts of strange things going on.....cults, kidnapping, orphan thieves, fleas trained to assassinate with poison, siamese twin villains, clones, a brain in a tank.......

and the story revolves around an evil guy who cannot dream, and steals children from the streets in order to hook them up to a machine that allows him to enter their dreams....but because he is so mean and so scary, the children are only able to have nightmares, so he is left shaken and unfulfilled.....

his obsession with dreams consumes him.....anyway, its a very good movie, and honestly i think it is an example of a movie that is live action but had it never been made, i think i would not at ALL be surprised to see something similar in an anime.....

if you havent seen it, i suggest giving it a shot

yeah, i think its pretty amazing. i think nana is my favorite character by far....i think nana/number 7 is my favorite character, probably, though i suppose favorite characters are pretty meaningless. i just thought she was one of the most interesting...and thought the whole thing about the money was pretty funny

i also kinda like the contrast between the horribly gruesome or otherwise disturbing scenes and the lighthearted, humorous....even cute other side of things in between...its wierd, there are so many moments that are really funny or otherwise would feel out of place in such a morbid story. but it somehow all fits together alright.

btw, do any of you know the name of an anime show on adult swim that had a bunch of kids wearing crazy white masks running around a futuristic city playing a game of hide n seek with some crazy monsters. it was like a year ago like 2 in the morning i was drunk and stoned off my ass watching it. it might have been a movie because i think it was like an hour long. or maybe it just seemed like that..

I've just seem a few movies. I LOVE LOVE Akira, I love Spirited Away, I liked Cowboy Bebop and those are the only ones that come to mind that I really like.
I saw Armitage III, it was entertaining. I saw Captain Howl's Moving Castle, I liked SOME of it.

the ending is said for all the main characters....

autentique, i have heard nothing but good things about spirited away, and intend to see it as soon as i can. i read part of howl's moving castle back in highschool (originally it was a fantasy novel by diana wynne jones....when i first heard of the movie i didnt know for sure they were linked, because nowhere in any adverisements or anywhere else at first did i see any mention of her...a shame, really) anyway, i only read part of the book unfortunately, but it was pretty good. i ought to read the best. i hope the movie is good, because my friend just got it yesterday and i hope to see it soon.

the thing i hate the most about anime though is how expensive it is.
