    Doo doo doo.

It's New Years Eve. I have some Captain Morgan Spiced and a growler of Honey Wheat Ale from the Propeller Brewery. I'm not sure how much a Growler is, but it's a good amount of beer.

A growler is a small jug, Im not exactly sure because I never really questioned the size, but I BELIEVE it's just under a gallon. I havent had one in almost 3 years, there is a brewery/restaraunt here that sells all different kinds of beer and I used to get 2 grolwers for a night. But I cant remember even how big the jug is, probably closer to half a gallon really. :)

Probably start with some vodka and redbull then move on to Fosters then finish with a few a nice 12 Yr old single Malt as a night cap

I could very easily go check out how much is in the growler. I've never questioned their size either, but they are handy. $8 to refill one, which in my opinion is pretty sweet. Especially since Propeller is one of my favourite brand of beer around here.

EDIT: Growler is 64 oz. So 2 Quarts.

I don't know what that is in american gallons :p

nice selection for sure! though if i have seen the beer in the back before, then i simply can't recognize it by what little is shown. i doubt i've tried it. i also have yet to try the westmalle, which i will probably do within the week (maybe not necessarily that westmalle, i know at LEAST two varieties are available at the wine/beer shop nearby, i don't know how many varieties they make though)

its good to see somebody drinking foret! it's probably my all time favorite beer, and EASILY my all time favorite saison. since saison beers represent my favorite style of beer, i suppose that would have to make foret my favorite beer. i find it to be the most enjoyable beer i've ever had the pleasure of drinking, and my day has been amazing, largely due to having a 750ml bottle of it a couple hours before work today...i hadn't had it in a long time, and it was long overdue....i enjoyed the hell out of that beer! wish i had more, but i can only find it in one store in the city and nowhere else can get it, i've asked a few different retailers closer to me to try and get it, and both said they tried and failed to order it. i may have to get a bottle again soon, cause there were only a few on the shelves, and it looks like perhaps they may not be getting it back in. i'm very upset about this, but one lone fanatic can change everything i guess.

anyway, tonight i'm trying weyerbacher's blasphemy tonight, and its damned good. fruity, woody, and very, very alcoholic. i think it is not the strongest beer i've ever had, but at 11.8%ABV its pretty close. barely any carbonation, and a dark, reddish copper color. served in a delirium tremens glass (tulip) the aromas are strong and intoxicating, and quite vinous.

all in all i'm very pleased with the beer in general. quite a step up from their attempt at a saison (called "muse")

i have some baltika #9 (their strong lager) waiting in the fridge if i feel up to it once i polish off the blasphemy, but i may not be.

who am i kidding...even if i dont finish it, i may well drink most of it.

    yep, half gallon for sure.

tonight i'm currently drinking southampton secret ale, which is supposed to be an altbier. it tastes good, goes down easy and is quite drinkable. i think its too cold, but thats cause the store i got it from 10 minutes ago or so refridgerates ALL their beer, so if i want it warm i have to wait a while. i figured i'd open it and have it.

i'm not incredibly familiar with altbiers, but i have a fondness for uerige sticke alt, and sticke is a kind of slightly stronger altbier if i'm not mistaken.

while this can't be expected to be quite as rich and malty, i find it lacks the smooth, almost velvety character i find in the other. this is good and i'd recommend it for a session beer maybe in spring and autumn, but i'm not particularly impressed with it. like i said it tastes quite nice, it just really seems to be missing SOMETHING.

i also have a bomber of rogue shakespeare stout (which i've also never tried before) sitting near (but not too near) the space heater to help take the chill off of it. i'm excited to try it - i'm really in a stout kinda mood and its pretty well rated. i just hope it isnt also too cold. ideally i'd like it room temperature right now (cold, snowy, gross day) but it will probably still be slightly chilly when i drink it...but that's ok.

I am drinking Orlio organic ale tonight. It's a new line of beer made by Magic Hat. It's the first time I've had this particular beer, but it's quite good for being a standard ale and it's a very easy to drink beer.

The beer hidden in the back is the only non-Belgian beer in the picture. It's called Imperial Gemini, made by the excellent up-and-coming Southern Tier Brewing Co., in Lakewood, NY. It's a strong 10.5% ABV blended ale made from two of the brewery's imperial IPA's. Very good stuff!

The Foret is a nice saison, but it's not my favorite. I think my favorite saison is still the Hennepin by Ommegang. It's made in NY, but just as good as anything made in Belgium. Plus, unlike the Belgian saisons, this stuff is fresh. Now freshness doesn't always matter with Belgians, as many of them are better aged several years. This doesn't hold true with the saisons, though, which should be consumed within six months to a year at the most. Most of the Belgian saisons sold here are reaching the point where they are no longer very fresh.

As far as Saison / farmhouse ales go my favorite is probably the Dupont Avec les Bons Voeux. Give it a try if you have not already.

currently i am drinking rock art double smoked porter, which will be followed up by Wild Dog collaborator doppelbock.
