Ive seen it Frankly...overrated. But then im quite hard to impress i guess. Will was excellent as was to be expected But the plot...well...a bit too 28 days later. Like...seen it all before. There are also a few dodgy graphics...and some of it didnt quite add up. Still, it entertained. 6/10 Ive spoken to many other people whove said it was the best film theyve ever seen though. It was memorable (I saw it a few days ago, and its so rare for me to remember any of a film the nxt morning )
Just went to see it and it was pretty good, though the crazies were your usual mindless zombie/reaver types who just grunt, roar and snarl all the time. I was the only one in the cinema who laughed when the girl had never heard of Bob Marley ... If the plot seems unoriginal, it's based on a 1954 novel which was already filmed in 1971 as The Omega Man starring Charlton Heston.
I had an inkling 'I am Legend' was based on that film just from its synopsis. There were some great city shots in The Omega Man but it slow and drawn out. I have a feeling this film is too, probably as I haven't seen it.
I have, the dog was sooo cute! I thought it was ok... Not my favourite film though/ Love Esmee xxxxx!
...people who obviously haven't seen very many films:tongue: It's perfectly fine, not great, a bit forgettable...
I have not seen this film yet. This is due to high costs of going to the cinema. In the 02, it is 20 pounds a ticket anytime. No concessions, unseasonal bah, humbug
Anyone seen the Alt. Ending? I thought it was better than the one they used in the film by far here's a link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DGsbikMS3Ec P.S. sorry for posting in old threads lol
don't apologize for posting in old threads ... it's still one from this year we just only saw this a few weeks ago, then looked up the alt ending. the alt ending was supposed to be the original ending, but they were worried that it wouldn't sell. so we ended up with the big explosion ending that was released. i really quite liked this film, but when i saw it i didn't really understand why it ended the way it did. the alternative ending, should have been the one in the film originally. it makes loads more sense, and gives you a better sense of what is going on, i feel. it is also what is in the original book. but well, Hollywood always messes movies up for the extra bucks, so it's to be expected really.
Having read the book in the meantime, the film (as shown in cinemas anyway) was more a remake of The Omega Man than a faithful adaptation of Matheson's novel - i.e. a lot of things were in both movies but not in the book. So what happens in the alternative ending?
DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN IT AND DON'T WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS! instead of the huge explosion where he blows himself and all the nasty creatures up, after seeing the butterfly on that woman's neck and putting the woman and the boy in the cupboard with the cure ... what happens is entirely different. in the alternative ending: they are still in the perspex room - the woman, boy, the doc, and the 'semi-cured' woman. the alpha male is outside banging away on the perspex trying to break through. then the doc looks at the 'semi-cured' woman and rolls her over a bit, seeing a tattooed butterfly on her shoulder ... it all suddenly makes sense to him. he looks at the alpha male with a sense of relization and at that point the alpha male seems to calm down a bit. the doc starts to unhook the 'semi-cured' woman from all the life support and monitoring devices. he tells the other woman (sorry can't remember her name) that he wants her to help him open the doors then close them immediately after he's outside. he pushes the lab table with the semi-cured woman out where the alpha male and all the beasties are, the door being closed behind him. the alpha male gets right up next to him, and roars in the doc's face. the doc tears up a bit, and says "i'm really sorry ... i didn't realize". finally getting the fact that the reason the alpha male and all the beasties have come after him, is down to the woman being his partner. he finally formulates in his brain that they are intelligent and do have a society (really not sure why he didn't grasp that concept when they tried to trap him). the alpha male picks up the semi-cured woman and the whole pack run away leaving the doc standing there ... fade to black fade back in ... and the doc, the woman, and her son are in the MPV driving out of NYC towards Conneticut. the woman's voice comes on doing the same taped message that the doc has been doing .. who they are, how there are survivors out there, that they are leaving NYC and heading for the survivors colony in Conneticut. the doc smiles at the woman, and then fade to black. (if i remember correctly that's how it goes) ... made a lot more sense to me, though it does leave A LOT of questions open. but well, I thought it suited the movie a lot more than some huge ass hollywood style 'good thing this grenade was sitting here so handy' explosion. and i've never read the book, but supposedly it is much closer to the ending in the book.
read the book saw the vincent price film which you can watch on google by the way , knew all the words to the omega man off by heart as i had it on video but havent seen the new film
Talk about life imitating art - in the Omega Man, as you'll remember, Neville knows all the dialogue in Woodstock by heart. In the new film it's Shrek. Pretty much sums up the difference between them.
I have the woodstock film and when it gets to the part where he recites dialogue I often times do to , I like the theme song of the omega man
Saw this the other day. Thought it had plenty going for it, except for the dismal special effects, but it just didn't satisfy, thrill or chill in the same way as 28 Days Later. The alternate ending is a much better idea. They build into it throughout with the Alpha Male stalking him after he takes the woman, but with the ending they hurriedly patch into the film none of the build-up makes any sense. Moreover, the alternate ending is much more in keeping with the theme of the book and its title, because he is a legendary monster to the infected, rather than some half-arsed copout reference to the title they use instead. Massive mistake to switch endings last minute....
