growing opium poppy requires you to sow the seeds in the fall. you need a well drained soil. getting the seeds is no problem. just look over at heaven's stairway or something, they're legal in canada. checkout poppies.org

Ha back in the 60s my uncle went to china, and he smuggled in like 3 opium poppy plants, and planted them at my grandparen'ts old ranch....and a few years after they sold the ranch my mom went out and got some of the poppies and put them in our backyard, they are florishing now it is quite awesome....and my mom beleives they still have opium potential....Muwhaah

your uncle probably smuggled back just opium and seeds. transplanting opium is near impossible. it has such a fraqile root structure. i couldn't transplant it at all. transcontinental transplant probably didn't happen, probably your uncle smuggle back some seeds, which he planted. probably smuggled back some O at that rate too, haha. you got a cool uncle.
