I could have prevented the draft, since people would have hopefully been a tad more informed. But... considering the day's social atmosphere... the internet would have probably been so tightly regulated that it wouldn't have made that much of a difference. What... if... the commies get the internet? Imagine that! Those evil commie bastards!
Lets assume a completely unregulated internet. You could just as well say today is MORE politically "uptight"... patriot act speaks for itself.
More politically uptight than back then? Are you serious? You'd get thrown in jail just for saying that communism was groovy, man. Groooooovy. Completely unregulated internet? Which means free media, and free flow of information... which would have probably let to the hippies never existing... since they would all just sit at their computer and bitch instead of protesting. You can just throw Country Joe and the Fish out of the window.
Well, I'm more pokin at same shit different pidgeon But I don't know enough of the political climate to make an "educated" statement in the first place. Plausible. Such a different world back then... I'd like to say by now we would have solved many issues that arose back then due to the lack of communication... before the media propoganda train was rollin as hard as it is today... perhaps we wouldn't have allowed such things to take place. Such a great media outlet could only have positive effects... today I wouldn't know 1/100th of what I know if not for the 'net, I bet that would apply to 50 years ago.
The media did get a tad too powerful now though. I don't mind it too much... they can control all the world as long as I get to talk shit on the internet. I'm not going to try to pretend to fight a multi-billion dollar industry. All of this excess of information has some drawbacks... it brainwashes people into silly stuff such as polit-correctness or global warming... but it still does so much more good than bad. I own a lot to the internet. It's a great place to be a kid.
This is why the internet must never be regulated or subsidized... it must be as it is. Media is shifting to the net, its a superior content delivery method that more people realize every day... the 9'oclock news is useless, and more interesting/relevant news can be had at any time and watched repeatedly without hassle online. The fight is this shift, you are helping by not turnin on the toob After not watching more than a few hours worth of TV for the past year or so... the slight suggestions and projected "correctness" of the agenda proported through the airwaves are awe inspiring. Its amazing that something like that could be orchestrated for so many years... and people remain entirely unaware.
The interesting question is... When will the corporations truly catch on? They're already having presidential debates on Youtube and Facebook, among others. When does the internet become television? Or even worse... when is the internet forced to become television? Probably not soon though. I'm gonna go watch something that I should be paying for for free.
As long as there is competition, mainstream media will never be able to thwart sites like theonion and what not... because mainstream by definition is inferior and agenda serving... given a choice (or at least having an open mind) few choose such idiocy over the real deal. What we must hope is that the internet is not bought out and regulated.... then it becomes "TV" by default and truly educating the masses is made nearly impossible. I just watched "shortbus" online today... interesting movie, I actually liked it. Beware, there is actually some pretty hardcore gay sex, and I'm not joking LOL... but very well done. As a straight man I'd like to see less homo in the movie, perhaps in reality its not that bad, but its the images that stick in my mind.... not a forgettable movie.
That train was a rollin way before any hippy came around. Said train is the main reason why the human race is destrying this planet, spending multi-billion dollars on useless bullshit, and so on and so forth. In my mind the net is putting a dent in the propoganda train, but it still has a long way to go before the "people" gain independance from this retarted train that keeps on keepin on, mocking our so called "freedom"
i think it would have gone a lttle like this: "WHAT! a whole medium owned by no-one? controlled primarily by the PEOPLE???? COMMIE BASTARDS KILL EM ALL!!!!" everything would be censored and stuff forum members arrested all we would be allowed would be email and google which onli leads to one site about cats
I know that in french it is something like :''Avec des si, on pourrait mettre Paris dans une bouteille '' or something like that. So i guess that we can say that with ifs we could bottle up Paris
