Got a part time voluntary job in a weather station. I have seen the forecasts for the next few weeks and they even have a simulation future cast machine. They like me, feel that 2008 will become the Year of the HEATWAVE. Temperatures are predicted to rise to 100 degrees feranheit in the Southeast region. The rise in temperature will be noticable from May/June. It is also said that the reason we have had a lot of wet weather this year is because Nature is sort of "preparing herself for a drought". Therefore she really is trying to start things growing and filling up water tables so that trees and plants can tap into the reserves. As nature works as an organism. It is also the rise in climate change at an unpredidented rate that 2008 will become hotter than most other heatwaves. It will be hotter than 1976 and 1988. In affect, this heatwave is going to be 60% result of man made climate change. The 40% is the Earth's natural climate change.

one year of heatwaves could certainly be serious, but it is the longer term implications of global climate change over extended periods that are far more disconcertingly alarming.

this isn't something that does zero to sixty in the quarter mile, nor stops on a dime.

but it is something we can do something about the way human activity is triggering it.

and the way to do that is to adopt energy and transportation policies that discourage continued excessive reliance on combustion. (and population management policies that discourage excessive birthrates, even encourage reducing them down to more sustainable levels, in effective and NON draconian ways. it is after all, our excessive numbers, that are exascerbating all of these problems).

    100f is 38 celcius.

    That's not that hot.

I remember when I was a kid growing up in the mid 90s and I remember days of temperatures of 44.

Global Warming is not that huge.

Notice how all these so called " record breakers " are just a tad higher than past records, which were set in the 1800s!!!!!!

Well we all know that humanity is slowly destroying the planet. People have no regard for Earth as long as they can get their fancy houses and nice lifestyles. Meh

I love warm weather. HATE the winter. I'm looking forward to hot ass summers. But 100F is a little much.....

Do you hate being hungry as well?

We can engineer around just about anything concerning global warming, but there is one area that is in deep trouble. Food production.

Lets say that the heat travels 200 miles further north than its ever been. This is going to have a terrible effect on crops. Worldwide famine is a very real possibility before we can adjust to it.

I think people under-estimate the power of the earth. The human race may be changing the climate and dooming our race in the process but it's not like the earth is going to die with us. Hell, maybe the earth knows we're no good for her, and is changing the way she works to get rid of us. The earth will always be able to support life up untill the sun explodes or a monstorous comet smashes into us.

We're exagerating global warming I believe. While I certainly believe it exists, we as a nation are certainly getting better about it. America and Europe will have little to do with global warming in a few years. Its more China and India I'm concerned about though. 3 billion people with no idea on the environment works will certainly damage the ozone layer.

I agree Quagmire, those two countries are growing larger everyday and with that growth comes growth in the amount of toxins and pollutants they're pumping into the air. Although it's not like developed countries can point the finger as we still have a long way to go before we can call ourselves "environmentally friendly". Still, i would be lying if i said what China and India are doing to the environment didn't worry me.
