    My sister is left handed, and writes all her letters backwards....like the way one would normally draw a letter a, from left to right, and then line in the middle, she would do it all backwards. Shes really creative though. Way better mechanics than I have. I write and draw like a small child.

    i learned tonight that i am "cross dominant," or as some folks call it "mixed handed"

    i can accomplish some tasks with one hand, and other tasks with the other. for me, most things that require use of fine motor skills generally involves the use of the left hand. i write with my left hand. i draw with my left hand. i paint with my left hand. although i do none of these in a beautiful fashion, i am entirely unable to do them with my right hand. the normal determining factor in hand dominance is the hand with which one writes, but the defining factor of which hand is dominant is that it is favored over the other hand in the majority of tasks. for me, fine motor skills come with my left hand. i write with my left hand, and if i hold a steering wheel with one hand its my left.....but thats about the extent of it's usefulness. for EVERYTHING else i use my right hand. by most accounts i would be right handed, but i cant write with that hand.

    i am not ambidextrous as i cannot use both hands interchangably. ambidexterity is a specific form of hand cross-dominance, but not all cross-dominant people are ambidextrous. until i looked it up tonight, all i knew about conventional hand-dominance classifications was that there were righties, lefties, and the people so wierd you needed a scientific-sounding word to describe them: the ambidextrous.

    i knew i was none of these three things, and i knew most people said i was left handed because i wrote with my left hand, but i knew enough that my left hand was by no means dominant. it is used in the vast minority of life's tasks.

    until tonight when i searched for information before posting this, i had never heard of anyone like me, and for all i knew i was the only cross-dominant person on the planet.

    even if its such an unbearably minor facet of one's life as hand dominance, its a nice feeling when you learn you're somehow not alone in the world in some way

    i use my left hand primarily for tasks dependant on fine motor skills, such as writing and drawing.

    i use my right hand for almost everything.

    most people are either right hand dominant or left hand dominant, and a viry small majority of people are known as "ambidextrous," or equally dominant in both hands. until i looked it up tonight i knew i fit into none of these groiups. tonight i stumbled across the term "cross dominant," and it is what describes me. for a tiny number of activities, most involving small motor skills like writing or drawing or using a scalpel or whatever, i use my left hand. anything involving that general type of motor skill is done with my lef hand. anything else like shaking hands, throwing, catching, bowling, playing frisbee, jacking off...thats all right-handed.

    its wierd. until tonight i figured there had to be others like me, but as far as i knew i'd never met one and didnt know there was a word for it. it may sound crazy, but i'm glad to know i'm not a complete anomally and there are others like me out there.....

    No its not too hard, with the internet at least. I have a left handed acoustic that my mom got for me a long time ago. she had to order it from a music shop and I think it was pretty expensive. I also had a left handed mexican strat but sold it. As soon as I have the cash Im gonna buy a les paul standard, which are easy to find online or just order from guitar center.

    nah dog, I'm a lefty but you learn to conform to the righty world so I guess it kind of forces you to go ambidextrus

    IIRC, sinister is Latin for left-handed and dexter means right-handed.

    Dexterous = good, skilled

    Sinister = evil

    So he was a bit superstitious... Right hand - it all goes right, left hand - it all goes wrong... Hmm... Funny though, never thought about it this way... I've always admired left handers... they seemed special.
