where i live, (N.California) there are mudhrooms which look identical to magic mushrooms, from liberty caps to psilocybe cyanescens. ive found one that looked identiacal to the cyanescens and i took it home and started to wash it it coldish water and then tons of tiny bugs started crawing out of it... so i decided to turn on the boiling hot water (yes i know this kills the psilocybe) then i cut it in half and there was a maggot in it... is it okay to eat them anyway? or are there ways to clean them successfully? help would be appreciated... Here is also a picture of dried liberty cap looking ones... http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x119/PSPZombie/clearer.jpg http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x119/PSPZombie/close.jpg
Chances are that the bugs are only extra protein, so the real question is whether you're willing to eat bugs. Also, your pictures are out of focus, making your mushrooms unidentifiable. I recommend taking better pictures and reposting them to shroomery.org if you are uncertain of what they truly are.
You have to indentify EXACTLY what type of mushrooms they are. If you determine that they won't kill you...then you must go find some without bugs. You're crazy.
Why am i crazy? When i ate those mushrooms, i was already high on mj. So i really didnt give a crap if anything happened. Luckily, nuthing did happen.
I personaly would eat them with the bugs. They are small bugs so it wont taste bad and it may be an experience to remember.
Lol, These guys have better experiences than me and are proberly better quailifyed to give you an answer. Just one thing that i shall add, Some mushrooms can kill you in large does, some can give you an upset stomach. Some will damge your kidneys to possibly lead onto a needed transplant, These are extreme cases, But you never know. If you don't know what the mushroom is, DON'T EAT IT
Maybe this is just me, but I don't regularly eat bugs. So if I were to eat bugs & mushrooms, those bugs would come back to haunt me in my trip, I just know it. But again, probably just me.
Please come back and re-read this statement in a couple years. Note: One of the main rules of picking wild magic mushrooms is to NEVER EVER pick any shrooms with bugs. Much less eat them.
Well, i know that ur not supposed to pick the ones that are festering with bugs, but what if there are only a few? like 1-10 very tiny ones in the gills...
