I wonder if the outrageousness of the behaviors in a-camp in Ocala aren't exacerbated by the exile of its members (physically and socially) from the rest of the family. I know there are many independant factors that differentiate Ocala from other regionals (i.e. the size, the transient population, the fact that Orion's annual reappearance at a certain spot in the sky has guaranteed a reunion in the same spot every year (save 1996) in my memory) However, it seems a bit unfair to ostracize any family members so completely for preferring an "unholy" ritual. Violent and destructive behaviors don't belong at main camp, but alcohol consumption is no guarantee of provoking such behaviors in the majority of consumers. Violence/belligerence is usually a reaction to something- perhaps something like being looked down upon by everyone who passed by you at the front gate? Or perhaps by harrassment from the small percentage of a-campers who honestly cannot behave civilly? It feeds itself. I've been to gatherings-much smaller regionals- where meat and alcohol were not considered manifestations of the devil himself. There was no a-camp, there was a keg at main circle late nights. Of course, with less than 100 folks milling about, many of the "traditional" camps weren't present in any organized way. But you don't need a physical CALM to get help with a medical issue at rainbow, you don't need but one solid kitchen to get meals rolling. That's part of any gathering, "bar and grill" model or other. Don't get me wrong- I am well aware of the special complications of Ocala. And the idea of those hard drugs being brought into the woods and threatening the health of our family- nevermind its legality- scares me senseless. I just wish there were some solution better than shuffling through the main gate pretending not to see or hear these kids. They can get that treatment on any public sidewalk in the US, surely there has got to be some small action we can take to reach out? Speak to even one or two folx on your way in and remind them they are home and still loved?
how many of theese folks have actually ever kiked it there? yall are just as bad as everyone up front with your accusations and this unspoked HATE for our family up front, man the gathering would fall apart if it werent for them. best solution, were not going anywere, its just safer to STAY AWAY this is a very tight knit group of people who dont like new commers who try to mounth off and act like they do, besides dosent everyone know not to fuck with a large group of drunk assholes? cmon now, its common scence. PEACE AND LOVE TO AAAALLLLLLLLL MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS
"how many of theese folks have actually ever kiked it there?" good point! i think alot of the family has rushed right through a-camp/bus village to get into the gathering....and so the rainbow rumor mill has become "the facts". you don't have to drink to chill with a-camp...everyone has a story, a history...underneath all the drama we are still all family! it's amazing what you learn when you allow your heart to open without prejudice and see with true vision. yes i have personally witnessed agro violence in a-camp...but i've also seen it rear it's ugly head elsewhere inside the sanctuary without an a-camper or fire water anywhere near. there is a balance folks without darkness there can be no light. if anything i think it's really dangerous how much of the blame/focus gets shifted towards the maingate and a-camp... btw...little hawk ain't all that bad..you may have already met him although he may have given you his alias "shithead" (i'm not kidding) OH! and for the record....we are ALL shanti sena loving ALL of you family
btw...little hawk ain't all that bad..you may have already met him although he may have given you his alias "shithead" (i'm not kidding) "exuse me sir.... may i tell you a true story?" hopefully our favorate butter cup of them all will be alowed back in da woods this summer, last i know he got kicked in the head by a horse, poor pld bastard
dang! kicked by a horse? well at least the infamous little hawk hasn't "died" this year. that sweet little thang has been "resurrected" more times than i can count. i wonder who has more @#$%ed up injury stories to share little hawk or spirit. loving yew!
I agree with S.H. Stuff like this is why a lot of Family doesn’t consider regionals family gatherings. A lot of regionals turn in to violence, hard drugs and trash left behind. Is that a Rainbow gathering? It is hard to say but it give the family a bad name when lose gatherings degrade into a bunch of crap the family is against. And little halk has brought almost nothing but bad vibes to the family he talks shit to people coming in and out of the gathering and starts fights, little halk is a worthless piece of crap. A camp dose have a purpose but all of these drunks try to confiscate alcohol is not working for the family they are just feeding their own addiction. Most of the time A camo is doing a lot more harm then good.
well i haven't been to council in a long time...have any of you? i haven't been to the florida gathering in awhile either...not because i don't want to but because i'm a caregiver for my dad now and i'm unable to travel for the time being. the whole maingate/a-camp BS isn't anything new....does anyone have any ideas on how to move forward...or are we just pointing fingers and assigning blame? little hawk has been banned from this gathering since i can remember...i know he has been a troublemaker for the family but you cannot blame him for the drama that has happened in florida. like i said before...i think this whole debate is the true smokescreen. sorry...but the rainbow family i know and love has never been the squeekyclean scene you all are dreaming of(granted i've only been going home since the vermont annual/national in 91) i think we would have to exclude the humanrace to acheive this. just my opinion loving ALL of you
man you got alot of hate for them it looks like, but do you know theese people face to face? im SICK of people passing theese judgements, how long have you kiked it up front? i got love for ALL my family
Hullo Folks, I have kicked it with A-camp.The old and the new, and I dont know alot of these youngters,, sooo new to me is not much younger than I am,, but boy, what changes those were,, and now,, well, they need the love, out of control is not cool. I agree with SH, Hippiestead and Coyotesister,,, all have valid points. I cannot ever even begin to say whats really on my mind here, but, love yes we do, change yes we need.
look we all know, well all should know there are a lot of stand up folks that hang at A camp, however, anyone that has hung at A camp knows that there are a select few whom when intoxicated create situations unduly in order to justify violent acts. that can not be denied. as far as a answer,i aint got one,so ill just keep lovin my brothers an sisters an avoiding A camp after dark.. oh an,,um its,, kicked.. kicked. kicked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! no such word as kiked.. ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh,, that feels much better......... carry on...
jesus man, those are fighting words how much better did that make ya look compared to them? what did ya run your mouth and get the boots up front?
hey yall, you probably remember me as SHIT HEAD much love to all my family, each and everyone of em, ya know? even if i dont like em too
i think it's best for things like this to be called out. i mean, it's not like you've thrown anyone specific under the bus. you've just simply addressed a problem, well, a poor practice. i'll pray for you safety at your next gathering. i think we should collectively, as a family, call out any hard drugs in this year's Ocala Gathering. by hard drugs i mean anything white, not to descriminate against color -chuckles- but, anything white tends to be very destructive wether it's coke, crack, heroine, extacy, meth.... i hope no one is careless enough to let a bunch of "supposed halucinigens" (DOC/crystal meth) to enter the forrest this year.
i've been having similar feelings within the last few months but, i can't think of anything that would be very proactive to the issue. i feel comfortable hanging out in A-Camp during the day and playing my guitar for them, FOR A LITTLE WHILE, until everyone starts shouting at me to play songs i don't want to play. that's when i start to lose my cool and my center loses it's gravity. if there were an outreach that could be performed at Ocala this year, i would DEFINATELY count myself in. "People need loving the most when they deserve it the least". not to say they don't deserve loving but, i think it gets the point accross.
pay to get rid of them? I believe the situation was paying to not camp or have to drive by them, which was an available choice last year in Ocala. How can you get rid of anyone & still call it a Rainbow Gathering? Should we take yellow out of a rainbow...how 'bout red? If an individual is proven to be dangerous to others, usually the situation is assesed & dealt with, occationally someone is delivered to law enforcement. Admittedly, Shanti Sena doesn't seem to work as well as it used to but there are a lot of tricky lines in passing judgements on a-camp; anyone who has done a Gathering from early seed thru clean-up knows this.
