In France, you can get a pretty big log of goat cheese for about 1.80 euros, which is 2.60 US.

That same log would be 8-9 dollars in the US, or 6.10 euros.

and thats goat cheese from Vermont, non organic, not imported (obviously)!!!

I guess it just isn't as big in the US :(. Which sucks, because I love cheese, and goat cheese especially :).

well, because the "goat cheese" here is processed entirely too much. and it's not in great supply, which is a crying shame, because it's SO GOOD. i feel your pain. but in the usa, very few people, outside the "artisan" cheese makers, are willing to make the goat cheese, because for some reason, the milk of a goat is TOO FREAKY...WAY freakier than the milk of a cow.

Comparing prices in two countries on the opposite side of the ocean will get you nowhere. There are many things that are also way cheaper in the US.

Maybe the huge farming susidies that the EU gives to its farmers, especially those who do not grow grain, have something to do with the low price.

*nods* good stuff, that meat. but that milk, i dunno. it would likely be too foreign to my palate at this late stage in life.

The best Parmesan is goat's milk but that runs about $9 a pound most places I see it.

The one thing I really miss living here...cheese.

Thailand just doesn't have any, as far as I can see.

Ha, cheese is one of the very few things I miss when I am travelling in Asia. After a few months I am craving cheese more than anything else.
Nothing beats the great Dutch cheese and I the first thing I eat when I am back in the Netherlands is always cheese.

And you can find some cheese in Thailand, but its always of the terrible plastic kind. Asians just do not know how to make good cheese.
