I've just been wondering - is there any real difference between large doses of IV morphine vs. the heroin sold on the street (providing the street stuff is reasonably pure)? I've had several intense experiences on IV morphine in the hospital after surgery, including one near-OD thanks to a careless nurse. I don't have any plans to run right out and try heroin in the near future, but I've joked about waiting until my 95th birthday to start a good heroin habit.
Heroin? Ew. If there's ONE drug you shouldn't start on... I have been given morphine as a little child after surgeries but that's so long ago I have no idea what the experience was like. Can't have been much special about it, it's just painkiller.
heroin is comprised of codine and morphine......heroin is obviously much stronger. But when heroin metabloizes in your liver, it breaks back down into morphine http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heroin interesting fact.....heroin was marketed as a NON-ADDICTIVE substitute to morphine, and they put it in children's cough medicine.....hmmmm.....
"they put it in children's cough medicine.....hmmmm....." Cocaine was also used in the pharmaceutical industry.
dollydagger - heroin is in fact a different chemical to both morphine and codeine. Heroin is diacetylmorphine. Qualitatively, I'd say large doses of IV morphine are roughly equivalent to a medium-level dose of heroin. But you'll find heroin on the street a lot easier, mainly because its strength allows a greater cut. As a general rule, strength in opiates goes (weakest to strongest): Codeine > opium > hydrocodone > oxycodone > morphine > hydromorphone > diacetylmorpine > Fentanyl (not strictly an opiate-derived drug, but it acts on the opiate receptors). Yeah, I know a lot about opiates.. go figure.
Great info! I never knew heroin was actually a brand name used by Bayer! It's not something I'm looking to run out and get hooked on by any means. I currently try to stay far away from opiates because I enjoy them a little too much. And, all I do is sleep. Heroin scares me now - if it's stronger than the IV morphine they push in the hospital... I don't think I could handle that. I was on a pretty high dose of morphine at one point... so high the nurse was supposed to push it through a central line over a 2 minute window. One night, the nurse was running late, and they had a combative patient in the other room, so she slammed it in about 5 seconds. BOOM! I was floating out of my body for a long long while....
I'd rather skin my balls than try any of that stuff (esp. heroin). For me, if it isn't hallucinogenic, it isn't worth bothering. Except for weed, but even with weed I sometimes get CEVs. Also, injecting anything directly into your bloodstream sounds like a very, very bad idea to me.
weird, i had a kidney stone last year, they gave me alot of morphine at the hospital for the pain, all it did was ease the pain i didnt feel high, and then i puked like hell the next day from the morphine. i had the stone for a week and had to go to the emergency room for morphine 4 times, no highs any of the 4 times.
I've heard and read from several sources that as the years go by, the purity of heroin is going up. There was a cover story on one of Boston's free daily newspapers yesterday about the heroin coming in from Afghanistan could cause a heroin epidemic here in Boston (although I think it's already reached that point...at least here in South Boston.)
heroin crosses the blood brain barrier faster than morphine which means it hits you slightly quicker, but with iv usage its fucking intense anyway. just be careful you gotta filter it and all that shit, the best thing would be to get it from a hospital but that is fucking difficult. stay safe PEACE& HAPPINESS
