hi i think this is the right place to post, does anyone have a weird or scary thing happen to them just before they fall into a deep sleep b/c almost every night apart from nights when i have a drink as im in a light sleep i wake up in a panic and cant seem to breath or else i think my hearts stopped it will last only a couple of seconds but it really scares me and then it takes ages for me to get asleep then. as back when i was younger i used to think i was falling but always woke up before i hit where ever i was falling from. could anyone help with this or has anyone had same things happen to them.

    thanks for any feedback

i get sleep paralysis sometimes just as i'm going to sleep, my bodys just dead basicly, but i can move my eyes, i only have my eyes and i'm struggling to move but my body just wont. it's scary shit, a while ago i imagined a friend was sat on the chair as i was in this state laughing at me, took me ages to slap myself, but then it was a sudden movement and i'm alive again. kind of hard to sleep after that but when i finally do it's ok.

not sure what you've got going on though.

Maybe you're forgetting to breath? I usually have dreams of drowning or suffocating if I'm lying in a position that blocks my breathing. And I've heard somewhere that SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) was a result of the baby forgetting to breath in its sleep. So maybe you've got something like that - you forget to breath, but your body wakes you up to get you breathing again...

The brain has four types of brainwaves: Alpha, Beta, Theta, Delta. Alpha is your conscious mind. When you're wide awake and active. Beta is your subconscious, when you're deeply involved in a book or video game and you kind of tune out the rest of the world. Theta is your superconscious, basically when you're on the brink of unconsciousness, usually when you're deeply meditating or about to fall asleep. Delta is The Dreaming, when you're entirely unconscious and dreaming all the wonderful dreams. I believe what's happening is your astral self is exploring in more places than it should during the Theta state. I don't know whether or not you meditate so I'll break this down into two answers. If you meditate on a daily basis, trying grounding yourself better and opening your Root Chakra. Grounding yourself should help keep your astral self from straying to far when it shouldn't. If you don't meditate on a daily basis, try laying in your bed. Before you fall asleep, try to imagine that little white cords are connecting your back (side, stomach, whatever it is you're laying on) to the ground. That there are literally white tentacle-like cords from the earth trying to pull part of you in. It shouldn't be a scary feeling, more like the Earth is holding you before you go to sleep, like a mother holds her baby as it dozes off. Hope that helps!

Many times if one is overly tired upon their head hitting their pillow they may start to fall. One therefore has to make sure that they get at least 8 hours of sleep at a time. My body likes 9.5 hours a day.

It could also be a medical condition as my father had this malaise and he had to donate blood; it then went away.

If you smoke excessively you may experience your heart stopping for a tick, or you could develop arythmia. Usually drinking alcohol, or taking aspirin, will allow one to fall asleep. I take flax seed oil before bedtime. Some people will drink a shot of vinegar, since it seems to clear the lungs, but others warn against it as it tends to make the body acidic (instead of alkaline.)

Since it has been happening since you were a child you may want to see a doctor.
