Usually when I switch off the computer I leave and don't think about the internet whatsoever. Recently I've been thinking about my usage and realised that all I ever do when visiting messageboards is put out lots of negative energy. I have been trying to understand why and here are a few reasons (please excuse me for not expressing this very clearly but this has always been a problem of mine). Unless I'm using facebook or something similar I disconnect the "real" world with the internet world and totally forget that I am interacting with "real" people who actually value their time spent contributing to these kinds of things. When I go online I usually do it to fill time and most of the time I'm usually stressed and trying to distract myself from whatever I should be doing, hence my argumentative, most of the time mindless/thoughtless comments. I used to use messageboards as a way of venting in order to not let it affect my relationships with people on the outside world. I won't call it an alter-ego, but I don't know how else to explain it. I suppose I just used to come online to piss some people off, make myself feel better and then not think about it again. Also, I'm really lazy when it comes to the internet; I can never be bothered to read things properly etc, I have problems with this not only on messageboards, but through emails, articles... EVERYTHING! I'm a bookworm...I can't help it. This would also explain why I misunderstand a lot of concepts throughout these boards...I do this with text messages too! So, I've made this post as an apology to everyone on the forums that I've offended and also as a brief explanation. If I was to meet you outside of the internet, I think you'd be rather shocked. Anywhos, I can't turn back the time, but now that I've become aware of this it is never too late to change. Once again, I apologise to people and in future, if I choose to contribute I will genuinely express my opinions and not ones that will just create conflict for the hell of it. Thanks so much for this nay! I have to say i had noticed the whole "negative energy" thing just recently, and wondered what it was all about. Its so good to see you realise and have analysed a bit now. Were really good people on here, and id always usually liked your posts. Im sure everyone can understand, we all spread negativity sometimes, and i can see how doing this online is easier to just do on the spur of the moment and then forget about. Now you realise and thats whats important. Im sure therll be no hard feelings whatsoever Nice one

nay, glad you are re-evaluating your online approach. there are many of us out here who do see the Internet as being as real as day to day life. i would hope you would be quite friendly and nice in person, and though you can be at times online, i would say i personally have noticed the "negative energy" quite alot, and honestly had always wondered what was up with it. oh, and thanks again for getting me hooked on Jeff Noon.
